The Harry Potter TV show should stick close to the source material, but there are some stories I would love to see expanded in the series. By all accounts, Harry Potter has established itself as one of the most engaging and popular franchises in modern history. From a series of books by a previously unknown author, to some of the most popular movies ever made and a fanbase that is immensely dedicated to the storybook world, Harry Potter is more than just a story.
And as efforts have been made to expand on that universe, with the Wizarding World stretching into a spin-off franchise, various online resources, and more, there is a thirst from the fanbase to see and explore all that the narrative has to offer. The trouble is, within the pages of seven books, there is only so much information provided about various characters, and hints at things that could go much deeper. And the new Harry Potter TV show has the chance to expand on these details with its stretched out runtime over numerous seasons and episodes.
The Marauders Humble Beginnings
The Mischievous Makers Of The Marauders Map Should Get More Screentime
With the expanded runtime of a multi-season TV show, the Harry Potter remake can dive deeper into the history and backstory around artifacts like the Marauders Map, which makes a prominent appearance in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. As it turns out, Remus Lupin, a former friend of James Potter, made the map alongside several notable friends in their days at Hogwarts.
This group called themselves the Marauders, and they nicknamed themselves according to their unique Patronus animals. But these characters deserve to see more of the spotlight, and have some details about their group and their antics explored. How did they use the Marauders Map? What were their days at Hogwarts like? What did their friendship group look like as adults? All of this and more would be fascinating to see expanded on in the show.
Albus Dumbledore’s Connection To Grindelwald
Dumbledore’s Taboo Relationship Needs To Be Explore
While the Fantastic Beasts films did make a considerable effort to unpack the relationship between Albus Dumbledore and his former lover, Grindelwald, the unfortunate recastings, and the other challenges facing the movies resulted in a complex and slow journey that delivered precious few answers about the future headmaster of Hogwarts.
Albus had a life before Hogwarts, and though he stood tall as the master of the prestigious school, there was another part of him that was devoted to a dangerous figure in the Wizarding community. Seeing their relationship, and the breakdown that tore them apart, could be a wonderful expansion on an already legendary character.
Voldemort’s Rise To Power
Tom Riddle Was A Student At Hogwarts Before His Evil Reign
Voldemort is the bane of the Wizarding World. He stands out as potentially the most dangerous figure in history, whose reign caused the world to cower at the mere mention of his name. But when he appears in Harry Potter, he is at his weakest. Having divided his soul, lost his physical body, and hiding in various degrading forms.
Voldemort had a meteoric rise to power, with devoted disciples propping him up. And he went on to cause chaos. Seeing more of the rise to power, and Tom Marvello Riddle’s days as a student before he began his takeover would be a wonderful way to freshen up a story that had previously been told.
Snape’s Double Agent Arc
Snape’s Secret Mission Is Now Public Knowledge
With the movies and books released together, and the truth about Snape’s promise to Lily Potter only being revealed late in the series, the stunning reveal that Snape was actually trying to protect Harry for all of his years at Hogwarts was a revelation. However, no sooner was this revealed than Snape was killed off.
This could make a story that has already been seen into something new and more engaging.
With this big reveal now more public knowledge, the show could hint at and expand on this detail much earlier. It could see Snape make his promise to Lily, and unpack the complex feelings that he must be enduring throughout. Again, this could make a story that has already been seen into something new and more engaging.
Harry And Ginny’s Romantic Connection
Their Romance Came Out Of The Blue In Previous Versions Of The Story
One of the biggest frustrations in the movies, which is only slightly better in the books, is the relationship between Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley. Understandably, Ginny is Ron’s younger sister, and when Harry begins attending Hogwarts, he takes no real notice of Ginny, but at the end of the story, the pair fall deeply and madly in love.
This relationship needs more room to breathe, and further expansion throughout, so that when it does come about at the end, it doesn’t feel like a complete shock. If Ginny is seen to have a crush on Harry, and, over time, Harry begins to reciprocate those feelings, then this relationship can feel like a natural progression of the story. But Harry Potter’s new TV show could be the first part of the franchise to do the romance justice.
