Carrie Underwood’s American Idol season sees rating drop as fans rage at Trump ties

Carrie Under’s American Idol season is experiencing a six percent drop in ratings as fans boycott the singer’s ties with Donald Trump.

Recently, the country superstar has been everywhere – on American Idol as a judge, ringing in the New Year with a Times Square performance, and, most notably, singing America the Beautiful at President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20.

Known for keeping her political views private, her decision to perform at the controversial event surprised many longtime fans.

The performance went anything but smoothly.

Technical problems forced her to sing a cappella inside the Capitol’s Rotunda, and rumors emerged that she was upset with the lack of a proper stage setup.

Following the performance, social media lit up with criticism, and some fans even pledged to boycott her music.

Data from Luminate showed a 6% dip in her streaming numbers on Inauguration Day.

The fallout seems to have followed her to American Idol, where viewership took a sharp turn compared to the previous season.

According to RadarOnline, some insiders are pointing to Underwood as the cause.

“Some fans didn’t love that she sang for President Trump. It’s alienated part of the audience,” one source claimed.

Another insider noted, “There’s a growing feeling she’s overexposed, or maybe just not connecting with younger viewers.”

Not everyone is putting the blame on Underwood, though.

A former Idol producer noted, “The format feels tired now. The show hasn’t reinvented itself in years. Even diehard fans are drifting away.”
