Diogo Jota had just married his longtime sweetheart, Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children. The pair celebrated their nuptials on June 22.
According to reports, he was on his way to catch a ferry to England for preseason training with Liverpool. Doctors had advised him against flying because of a recent lung surgery, which is why he traveled by car.
It’s said that the brothers’ bodies were so severely burned, they had to be identified via DNA. Authorities are still trying to determine which one was driving at the time.
A funeral date has been set, with Diogo and Andre Silva to be laid to rest this coming Saturday in São Cosme, Portugal.
