Fans of Hazbin Hotel are buzzing after series creator Vivienne Medrano (aka Vivziepop) revealed that the enigmatic relationship between Overlords Rosie and Alastor the Radio Demon will take center stage in the upcoming third season. In recent interviews, Medrano confirmed that key mysteries – including Rosie’s overwhelming power and the reason behind Alastor’s mysterious seven-year absence from Hell – won’t be resolved until Season 3.
Season 2 delivered stunning revelations about Alastor’s origins. A flashback in episode 4, “It’s a Deal,” showed the Radio Demon as a human serial killer in 1930s New Orleans. Knowing his soul was damned, he performed a ritual to summon Rosie, striking a fateful bargain: his soul in exchange for becoming the most powerful Sinner in Hell upon arrival. This deal explained Alastor’s rapid rise as an Overlord – and why he was leashed to Rosie throughout much of Season 2, reduced to her “pet” under certain conditions.
But the bigger questions lingered: How could Rosie, leader of Cannibal Town, grant such immense power? And why did she order Alastor to vanish for seven years, weakening his influence just as the Exterminations intensified? Medrano told Polygon that these threads are deliberate setups. “The Rosie and Alastor deal is the first stepping stone in a much bigger story that involves so much, moving into Season 3,” she said. “Obviously that is a perfect question: How is she that powerful? The answer is in Season 3. The whole seven years… it’s feeding into a bigger narrative.”
Medrano emphasized withholding details to keep Season 2 focused, but promised explosive payoffs ahead. With Seasons 3 and 4 already greenlit by Prime Video and A24, the wait continues, though animation timelines suggest no immediate release.
This tease has sparked wild fan theories. Some speculate Rosie’s power ties to ancient origins or connections to figures like Lilith, given timeline overlaps. Others predict Alastor, now freer after Season 2’s events, could shift toward a more antagonistic role, embracing his devious nature.
Hazbin Hotel continues to captivate with its blend of musical numbers, dark humor, and intricate lore. Medrano’s adult animated series has evolved from its 2019 pilot into a cultural phenomenon, exploring redemption, power dynamics, and Hell’s chaotic hierarchy. As Charlie Morningstar’s hotel faces new threats, the Rosie-Alastor arc promises to deepen the show’s emotional and dramatic stakes.
With Medrano hinting at Season 3 being the “most romantic” yet, alongside family-focused Morningstar drama and potential villain rises, Hazbin Hotel is poised for even bolder storytelling.
