Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White has finally hit theaters. The movie was followed by controversy since its earliest days of pre-production, and now, it seems to have taken a toll. In fact, Snow White is now expected to lose as much as $115 million for Disney.

The film, which is one of the most expensive movies ever made, retells the story of Disney’s animated classic of the same name. Rachel Zegler stars as the titular character while Gal Gadot plays the part of the Evil Queen. Both cast members have faced their own forms of controversy, with Zegler being the most controversial aspect of the movie, in addition to other issues from Disney fans including its use of CGI dwarves.

Now, as pointed out via Deadline, Snow White is tracking to lose more than $100 million due to its underperformance at the box office. Here’s what the outlet was able to share on that front:

“Disney‘s Rachel Zegler– and Gal Gadot-starring Snow White is headed to an estimated loss of $115 million after all global home entertainment, TV and Disney+ ancillaries, according to distribution sources Monday. The loss, which was expected, is based on a final worldwide box office of $225M.”

It’s a hefty sum of money to lose on the project which was one of Disney’s biggest efforts yet to rejuvenate one of their animated classics for live-action. While some of these films have been great successes at the box office, others have similarly flopped, including Tim Burton’s Dumbo. Surprisingly, Snow White is already tracking to earn less than Dumbo at the box office, indicating how massive of a loss this film has been for Disney.

Of course, there are other avenues for the film to recoup some of its losses, including its inevitable release on Disney Plus and other home video platforms. With so many issues having plagued this particular project, however, it seems like everything was going against any potential success for Snow White. As such, we’ll have to see if the film can still muster up a fan following after its theatrical release or if it will be written off as a failure by Disney.

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Snow White and other Disney projects as we have them. For now, Snow White is currently playing in theaters.
