Meghan Markle took centre stage during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s last day in Colombia and delivered a speech at a forum focused on female empowerment.
The event at which Meghan Markle delivered a speech on August 18 was disrupted by a heckler.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex began the last day of their quasi-royal tour in Colombia by attending the Afro Women and Power conference in Cali.
The forum, centred on highlighting and uplifting Afro-Colombian women, featured a panel of experts as well as a heartfelt address by Meghan, who took centre stage alongside the vice president of Colombia, Francia Marquez.
After Meghan’s speech, which featured a sweet tribute to her three-year-old daughter Princess Lilibet Diana and mother Doria Ragland, it was Ms Marquez’s turn to speech.
But her moment was abruptly interrupted by a heckler in the audience, who asked a question about trans rights.

Ms Marquez responded: “I’m talking about women in general. We’ve got a programme for trans women as well.”
The audience member then sat down, and was allowed to stay in her seat for the rest of the event.
During her address, Meghan stunned the audience by saying a few words in Spanish.
Speaking about Princess Lilibet, the California-born royal said: “I encourage our daughter. At three she has found her voice and we are so proud of that.”Similar sweets words were shared for Doria, as the duchess said: “For me, I find inspiration in so many of the strong women around me. My mother being one of them. Life is full of surprises and can be quite complex.'”
The couple were invited after Ms Marquez was touched by their Netflix documentary
Meghan and Prince Harry began their tour in Colombia four days ago. They have used their visit to highlight issues close to their heart.
The pair were invited to the Latin American nation by the country’s vice president after she saw their documentary on Netflix, Harry & Meghan, and heard about the duchess’s life story which she said deeply touched her.
Ms Marquez, the first black woman in the country to hold the position of vice president, opened up about the reason behind the couple’s invitation during a press conference.
