Duchess Meghan is showing her love for her good friend Tyler Perry.
The Duchess of Sussex on Wednesday attended the Paley Center for Media’s Paley Honors fall gala in Los Angeles, where the filmmaker and actor was honored.
Meghan, who attended the event without her husband Prince Harry, wore a strapless black gown with a diamond necklace and posed with Perry on the red carpet. The “Madea’s Family Reunion” actor is a close friend of Meghan’s and godfather of her daughter, Princess Lilibet.
Meghan and Perry have known each other since he sent her a letter saying he was praying for her after her 2018 wedding to Harry. The director later received a call from Meghan and could “hear the fear” in her voice while she was being “abused” by the British media and the royal family, he said in the Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan,”
Harry and Meghan stayed at Perry’s house after they stepped back as senior members of the royal family in 2020. In Netflix’s “Harry & Meghan,” Meghan recalled Perry telling her that they could stay there as long as they needed.
Oprah Winfrey and Kerry Washington also turned out to support Perry at the Paley Center gala.
Winfrey described Perry as “my big little brother” and said his success stems from the fact that he “knows how to create art that lets people know they matter,” according to Variety. Washington, meanwhile, said Perry is her “North Star,” who “guides me, he teaches me what direction to move in professionally, personally, spiritually, in service, in love,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
The “Scandal” actress, who starred in Perry’s 2010 film “For Colored Girls,” was returning the favor after the filmmaker honored her when she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday. “She is incredibly kind and giving and powerful, and her heart speaks first,” Perry said during the Walk of Fame ceremony.
Meanwhile, Harry on Wednesday attended The New York Times’ DealBook Summit in New York, where he spoke with Andrew Ross Sorkin. After Sorkin mentioned articles questioning why Harry and Meghan were doing separate events in California and New York, Harry brushed off media speculation about their marriage, joking that according to online rumors, “We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times.”
