The Boys is a pretty outrageous show, but there are 10 WTF moments throughout the series that can sometimes leave viewers completely shocked. Despite the show’s excessive gore, profanity, sexuality, and more R-rated content, sometimes The Boys decides to push the limits of what’s allowed even further, leading to some pretty extreme scenes. With three seasons to consider, here are the 10 biggest WTF moments from The Boys, with there most likely only being more in the future.
The Boys follows the titular group of humans as they attempt to take down Vought, a corrupt company that manufactures and promotes superheroes. The Boys definitely goes out of its way to highlight how abhorrent these superheroes are, with characters like Homelander, The Deep, and Black Noir doing some truly atrocious things. However, the show’s shocking scenes aren’t exclusive to supes, as almost everyone in The Boys is morally bankrupt. The Amazon Prime series uses its massive budget to pull off disgusting scenes that can’t be found anywhere else, making these 10 WTF scenes from The Boys so unique.
10Soldier Boy’s Song
One of the most memed moments from The Boys season 3 was Soldier’s Boys song. While investigating Soldier Boy, the characters find an old video of him performing Blondie’s 1980 hit “Rapture.” Up until this point, Soldier Boy was presented as a pretty serious figure, with the sudden appearance of the Blondie song being a great use of juxtaposition. This surreal joke was so far out of left field that it instantly became one of the most memorable scenes from The Boys season 3, perfectly showing the dangerous charm of Soldier Boy.
9Homelander’s Milk Scenes
Out of all the crimes Homelander has committed, this act is relatively minor – but it is one of his weirdest character traits. The Boys establishes early on that Homelander has some sort of weird milk fetish, which would have been weird enough on its own. However, there are multiple scenes of Homelander drinking the breastmilk of his former boss, Madelyn Stillwell. These scenes are so uncomfortable that it’s hard to forget them after they’re over. The milk scenes also make Homelander seem even more childish and instinctive, kind of explaining his rampages and violent fantasies.
8Homelander Deafens Blindspot
Less funny and more sickening is the scene in which Homelander deafens a potential member of the Seven, Blindspot. Blindspot is a blind superhero who has enhanced hearing and martial arts abilities, with the character attempting to join Vought’s premiere superhero team after the Deep’s departure. However, in an attempt to expose Blindspot’s weakness, Homelander hits both of Blindspot’s ears at once, deafening the superhero. This is a truly despicable act from Homelander, with his abuse of a blind man truly cementing him as a completely irredeemable character.
7The Termite Scene
The Boys season 3 started off with a bang, introducing a new shrinking superhero named Termite. The season 3 premiere of The Boys opens with a shrunken Termite doing cocaine and having enhanced super-powered sex. The coked-up little superhero climbs into another man’s penis, stimulating him from the inside. However, when Termite sneezes, he accidentally grows back to full size, exploding out of the man and killing him. This gory and sexual scene perfectly sets the stage for the season that follows, but it was definitely a jarring welcome home in the premiere of season 3.
6The Courtroom Slaughter Scene
One of The Boys’ overarching stories follows an unknown head-popping supervillain, with their courtroom massacre being one of the show’s goriest moments. Right as a court hearing featuring a deposition that could take down Vought is starting, heads in the courtroom start exploding, with several powerful politicians falling prey to the supervillain. What’s worse is that this was being broadcast on live TV, meaning millions of people around the world probably saw it. It was later revealed that Victoria Neuman was behind this, but even with the mystery still intact, this is one of the most shocking scenes in The Boys.
5The Whale Scene
In The Boys season 2, the eponymous team of superhero killers are in a fierce boat chase. Just as they’re about to make their escape, The Deep makes his grand reappearance, blocking the ship with a whale. However, this only causes The Boys to speed up, with them ramming the boat directly into the side of the animal. When the team wakes up, they are inside the whale’s carcass, covered in blood and guts. Despite The Deep’s atrocities throughout The Boys, his reaction to the whale’s slaughtering is truly touching, as it is an incredibly sad moment to see an innocent whale be gutted by a speedboat.
4Doppelganger & Homelander’s Scene
The Boys also features a scene in which Homelander recruits the shape-shifting superhero Doppelganger to turn into his deceased boss, Madelyn Stillwell. While transformed, Doppelganger then attempts to seduce Homelander. However, once he realizes it isn’t working, Doppelganger transforms into Homelander, which seems to get the real Homelander’s engine revving. Throughout it, Doppelganger has to reassure Homelander that it isn’t gay since he is having sex with himself, adding a weird homophobic undertone to the already uncomfortable scene. To top it all off, the scene ends with Homelander snapping Doppelganger’s neck.
3The Deep Eats Timothy
In The Boys season 3, The Deep has a strange sexual relationship with an octopus named Timothy – but that isn’t even the WTF part. Later, while at a meal with Homelander, The Deep’s meal is a live octopus. As it turns out, this octopus is Timothy, and Homelander expects The Deep to eat him. The Deep does so, slowly slurping up his octopus friend and lover in a scene so full of conflicting emotions that it’s best to just forget about it as soon as it ends.
2The Flight 37 Scene
One of season 1’s infamous scenes involves a group of terrorists hijacking Flight 37. Homelander and Queen Maeve show up to stop them, but in the process Homelander accidentally cuts the pilots in half with his laser eyes. Homelander realizes that rescuing the passengers of Flight 37 would be bad press due to the slaughtering, so Homelander makes the executive decision to leave them for dead. Queen Maeve objects, asking to just save one girl and her mother, but Homelander insists that it is a bad idea. Thus, Homelander and Queen Maeve leave the plane, watching as it and its passengers plummet into the ocean.
1All Of Herogasm
Living up to its comic book counterpart, The Boys season 3, episode 6, “Herogasm” features a massive superhero orgy. The episode contains all kinds of creative sexual acts only possible with superpowers, already making “Herogasm” one of the show’s most explicit episodes. However, things get worse when a fight breaks out between Soldier Boy and Homelander, leading to a massive explosion that kills most of the attendees of Herogasm. The tonal shift from the sexual humor to the gory and dark ending is what makes the episode so great, proving that the biggest WTF moment in all The Boys is “Herogasm” in its entirety.
