“Woogity, woogity, woogity!“ Your favorite crew will soon be back with more adventures! The hit Netflix series Outer Banks is set to return with a fourth season this fall, and the excitement couldn’t be any bigger. Ever since the release of the first season at the beginning of 2020, the fanbase of Outer Banks has been growing non-stop, and it has quickly achieved the status of one of the best Netflix series.
The show, starring Chase Stoke, Madelyn Cline, Rudy Pankow, Madison Bailey, Drew Starkey, and Austin North, offers everything, reaching from valuable lessons regarding friendships and boldness to enjoying the little things in life and spending quality time with the people you love, making Outer Banks one of the best series to watch on Netflix. While the curiosity regarding the life of John B, Kiara, Sarah, Pope, and JJ is real, there is another character whose fate might be about to change.
Who Is Topper in Outer Banks?
The main characters in Outer Banks are unique in their own way, and each one of them has an exciting story to tell. Topper Thorton is one of the main characters in Outer Banks, who has been a part of the show’s adventures ever since the first season and has taken on the role of the secondary antagonist. Like the other characters in Outer Banks, he lives on Kildare Island, which is split into two territories: Figure 8 and the Cut.
Whereas the latter is home to the so-called Pogues, the lower-income inhabitants, Figure 8 is where all the wealth spreads and grows. Topper has been enjoying a comfortable lifestyle in Figure 8 and strictly defends its borders against the Pogues. His high social status, which he regards as his birthright, has blessed him with a life among the rich and wealthy, who have adopted the term Kooks. Considering the immense prosperity of his family and the fact that he certainly loves to show off with his expensive boat and his parents’ over-the-top possessions, Topper is regarded as the King of the younger Kooks.
Outer Banks may be a fictional show, but that doesn’t mean its class conflict isn’t based in reality.
There is another family, the Camerons, who are undoubtedly the wealthiest family on Kildare Island, and Rafe Cameron would have had the perfect foundation to become the picture of wealth and status, but his anger issues and drug-filled lifestyle dominated by lies have sent him straight into a downwards spiral. Topper, on the other hand, has always acted the part of being the perfect son, the perfect student, and the perfect citizen. All he has ever radiated is perfection. Even when it came to love, he was set on living the perfect relationship and carrying it out for the rest of society to see.
Rafe Cameron’s sister, Sarah, was the best catch he could have ever hoped for. This is because Sarah Cameron has the title of “Kook Princess,” and she indulges in the same luxuries as Topper. Together, their outward perception is of utmost priority to them, as they are regarded as the most enviable couple on Kildare Island. It would have been the perfect illusion if it hadn’t been for John B.
Toppers Unrequited Love in Outer Banks
Outer Banks Season 1 is where the relationship between Sarah and Topper has already started to crumble. While Topper continued to shower her with his love and tried everything to keep up a facade of effortless love, it was clear that the feelings simply weren’t there for Sarah. Apart from her little sister planting a poisonous seed in Topper’s head that Sarah was known for cheating on her boyfriends, Sarah was also very hesitant when Topper wanted to get intimate with her. Unfortunately, he scolded her for wanting to wait, which only pushed her further away.
John B. is a Pogue through and through. To Topper, that’s a big no-no, but Sarah is slowly but surely intrigued by the adventurous rebel who offers a chance to take her out of her bubble. His unfiltered goofiness, her desire to escape the restrictions of her family’s high status, and their back-and-forth banter, which, in the beginning, is certainly also marked by some serious dislike for each other, offering a fruitful ground for an unexpected connection. Before, Sarah’s tendency to cheat on her boyfriends was simply based on rumors. However, Sarah did go down that road with John B., and, of course, Topper found out.
With a new season out now and another on the horizon, let’s revisit the best moments in Netflix’s Outer Banks.
The betrayal he felt was real, and so was the heartbreak, but despite the initial bad blood between John B. and Topper, he still ended up helping them escape a dangerous situation. It wasn’t the only situation in which Topper helped Sarah and the Pogues, but he certainly didn’t do it out of empathy for John B. and his crew. He only continued to step up to prove to Sarah that he was better. Well, that quickly backfired.
Toppers New Love Interest in Outer Banks Season 4
Topper, as annoying and unjust as he can be, has had his fair share of heartbreak just within his relationship with Sarah. Despite the ugly end of their relationship, he always jumped the second she needed something and non-stop worried about her. It is no secret that he had been trying to get her back for the longest time, as he ended up trying to turn her against John B. and the Pogues and convince her that their life in Figure 8 is much more presentable and simply better. Sarah, even though she did appreciate his help, occasionally only resorted to him to convince him to do her a favor. Despite a brief rekindling of Sarah and Topper’s old bond, Sarah and John B are endgame. So where does this leave Topper?
Outer Banks Season 4 will return with its main cast, but it will also introduce some new characters who are set to join the rollercoaster in the OBX. Among them is Mia Challis, who has appeared in several short films before and was cast as Jenny Henson in Clickbait and also starred in the 2024 psychological thriller The Disinvited. As for Outer Banks, Challis will step into the role of Ruthie and form a tight bond with Topper. Ruthie is anything but quiet, as she radiates intense wild child energy and sometimes even reveals a slightly toxic side to herself. On top of that, Ruthie is a full-on Kook, which means the doors to buddy-up wealthy families such as Topper’s are wide open.
It won’t be long now until the hit Netflix series returns for another season, and the questions about Topper and his new love interest are finally answered. Outer Banks Season 4 is streaming on Netflix on Oct. 10.
