Recent insights from Richard Dalton, Princess Diana’s longtime hairdresser, aim to dispel longstanding rumors regarding Prince Harry’s paternity. In his new memoir, “It’s All About the Hair,” Dalton details his relationship with the late princess and addresses the speculation that James Hewitt, Diana’s riding instructor, is Harry’s biological father.
The speculation surrounding Prince Harry’s lineage has persisted for years, fueled by physical similarities between him and Hewitt, including ginger hair and freckles. Many have pointed to these traits as evidence of a possible connection. However, Dalton clarifies that such claims are unfounded.

“It’s not possible,” Dalton stated in an interview with Fox News Digital. He emphasized that Harry was born in 1984, long before Diana’s relationship with Hewitt began. Dalton explained, “It was tough… Harry was already born a while before her relationship with Hewitt. And I don’t think it’s possible.” He further reinforced his point by highlighting that Diana’s brother and sister also share similar hair colors. “Harry and the Spencer family have red hair. Charles, Diana’s brother, had bright red hair when he was (in) college,” he added, noting his past experience cutting Charles’s hair.

Dalton’s memoir also reveals Diana’s feelings regarding the rumors. He stated that she “used to get very upset” over claims suggesting Hewitt was Harry’s father. This emotional distress stemmed from the impact of public speculation on her family.

Diana and Hewitt first met in 1986, two years after Harry’s birth. Their romantic relationship, which lasted from 1989 to 1991, has often been cited as the source of these rumors. However, Dalton underscores the timeline, stating, “Harry was born long before Diana even met James Hewitt.”

Both Prince Harry and James Hewitt have previously addressed these persistent allegations. In a legal case last year, Harry stated, “Numerous newspapers had reported a rumor that my biological father was James Hewitt, a man my mother had a relationship with after I was born.” He expressed his lack of awareness regarding the timeline of his mother’s relationships at that time.

Hewitt himself commented on the speculation in 2002, asserting, “There really is no possibility whatsoever that I am Harry’s father. I can understand the interest, but Harry was already walking by the time my relationship with Diana began.”

As discussions about Prince Harry’s lineage continue, Richard Dalton’s memoir provides important context and clarity. By offering insights from those who were close to Princess Diana, Dalton helps dispel the rumors that have surrounded the royal family for years. Both Harry and Hewitt remain steadfast in their positions, seeking to put these speculations to rest.
