Geralt Hates Portals… But I Keep Teleporting Everywhere in The Witcher

Geralt Hates Portals… But I Keep Teleporting Everywhere in The Witcher 🤪

Let’s be real—if you’ve played The Witcher series, you know that Geralt of Rivia hates portals. He complains about them constantly in The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3, yet here I am, teleporting all over the place like it’s second nature.

At first, I took the ferry to the swamp in The Witcher 1 like a proper monster-slaying professional. Then? Boom—teleport scrolls. Thanks to mods (shoutout to Many Items Mod), I barely use boats or walk anywhere. Meanwhile, Geralt is running around completely unaware that, deep down, he’s about to develop a full-fledged portal phobia.

But when did his hatred for portals actually start? 🤔 And will the remake change some key moments from the original game? Let’s dive in.

1. The Witcher 1: No Complaints… Yet

Back in The Witcher 1, Geralt doesn’t seem to mind portals all that much. He casually uses teleportation circles with no complaints. He even walks through one willingly in the Mage’s Tower.

But something interesting happens when he meets Princess Adda and Roderick de Wett—he doesn’t dress up for the occasion. Weird, right? Because we know Geralt later begrudgingly wears fancy outfits in The Witcher 3 when Yennefer or a noble forces him to.

So, could the Witcher 1 remake add new dialogue where Triss tells Geralt to dress up? Would they drop hints about Yennefer, even though everyone assumes she’s dead? It’d be a nice retcon, especially since Dandelion should’ve at least mentioned her name.

2. The Witcher 2: The Complaints Begin

By the time we hit The Witcher 2, Geralt’s portal hatred starts creeping in.

🔹 First mention? He makes a snarky comment to Triss about portals.
🔹 But why? Well, his memory is still fuzzy, so he doesn’t fully recall how much he despises them.
🔹 It’s almost like a joke at this point. He complains about portals but still uses them when necessary.

This is where the seeds of his frustration are planted, but it’s not until The Witcher 3 that it really blows up.

3. The Witcher 3: “Damn portals.”

Ah yes, The Witcher 3—where Geralt’s portal PTSD is in full force.

Now that his memory is completely restored, he remembers everything about his past with portals—including Yennefer constantly yanking him through them.

🔹 He HATES being forced through portals. (Just listen to the frustration in his voice every time it happens.)
🔹 And yet… he still uses them when he has no choice.
🔹 He even dresses up for events he hates! (Unlike in The Witcher 1, where he showed up to royal meetings like he just rolled out of bed.)

It’s almost like his character evolved, but we missed the transition. Would the remake fill in those gaps? Could we get some extra Triss or Dandelion dialogue about Yennefer or Geralt’s growing hatred of portals?

4. What About The Witcher 1 Remake? Could Things Change?

With the upcoming Witcher 1 remake, CD Projekt Red has the perfect opportunity to tweak Geralt’s character progression so that it feels more natural.

Potential Changes in the Remake:

✅ Triss forcing Geralt to dress up for royal events (foreshadowing Yennefer’s influence).
✅ A hint about Yennefer’s existence—maybe through Dandelion mentioning her name.
✅ A small reaction from Geralt when using portals, hinting at his eventual dislike for them.
✅ More consistency between Witcher 1 and Witcher 3 Geralt.

If they tweak these things, it could make Geralt’s character development feel even stronger.

Final Thoughts – The Irony of It All 🤣

At the end of the day, I’ll still be teleporting everywhere in The Witcher 1, despite knowing that future Geralt will despise portals.

Maybe it’s just a cruel joke. Maybe it’s fate. Or maybe, just maybe… CD Projekt Red will use the remake to make it all feel more connected.

Either way, I’m still taking shortcuts—and Geralt will just have to deal with it. 🤣

What do you think? Would you like to see these changes in The Witcher 1 remake? Or should Geralt’s portal hate stay the way it is? Drop your thoughts below! 👇
