Prince Harry and Meghan Markle accused of ‘p*****g money away’ on new Netflix project

POLO is the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s third series for the streaming giant.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been accused of “p*****g money away” by a TV executive after the trailer for the upcoming Netflix series they executively produced was released.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not appear in the trailer for POLO which will be released on December 10.

The five-episode docuseries is the latest project the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have collaborated on as part of their deal with Netflix.

However, the 148-second trailer focussed entirely on the polo players and their relationships within the sport.

The docuseries features a behind-the-scenes look at the world of polo, a sport close to Prince Harry’s heart.

However, the trailer has received some criticism both publicly and privately with an unnamed senior Hollywood executive slamming the upcoming series.

They told the Daily Beast: “This looks like it has failed to capture the imagination.

“They still have Meghan’s cooking show to screen next year but there is very little tolerance for p*****g money away these days.

“It’s debatable whether anyone cares about these two if they are not serving up outrageous stories about the royals.

“They are running out of last chances to prove that isn’t so. If they can’t, they could try to monetize their fame on social media.

“Plenty of people would still give Harry a million bucks for a post.”

A former friend of the Sussexes also hit out at the series, saying: “The irony is that polo is actually a surprisingly inclusive sport these days.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a lucrative deal with Netflix in 2020 after stepping down as working royals.

“You do see plenty of rich kids but there are also plenty of kids from less rarefied backgrounds who just happen to be fantastic riders who are sponsored by the teams.

“It doesn’t look like this show is going to foreground that, which is a real missed opportunity.”

The Sussexes’ debut series Harry & Meghan was a huge hit on the streaming platform and broke several Netflix records.

The couple’s follow-up project titled Heart of the Invictus was released in August 2023 but the series failed to reach the same level of success as their debut series.
