Chris Evans Addresses His MCU Return With New Set Photo: “A Dream Come True”

Chris Evans has shared his reaction to having the opportunity to cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. Evans is an actor who is perhaps best known for starring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers, who becomes the supersoldier known as Captain America. Before playing the iconic role from 2011 through 2019, he had previously starred as Marvel’s Johnny Storm (aka The Human Torch) in the unrelated Fantastic Four movies. However, he made a cameo as Johnny Storm in the MCU, joining the Deadpool & Wolverine cast in a brief moment from the fourth-wall-breaking R-rated installment in the franchise.

On his Instagram stories, Chris Evans shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set of Deadpool & Wolverine. Check out a screenshot of the story below:

In his story, Evans called the movie’s stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds as well as its director Shawn Levy “three of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet.” He called it a “dream come true” to reprise the role of Johnny Storm, saying that the character will “always have a special place in my heart.”

Will Chris Evans Ever Hold Another Major Role In The MCU?

Avengers: Endgame Seemingly Ended His Tenure As Captain America

This surprise cameo appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, as well as his positive reaction to the opportunity, raises questions about whether Evans will ever appear in another major role in an upcoming MCU movie. There would appear to be several upcoming golden opportunities for this to happen, beginning with Captain America: Brave New World, a sequel following Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) taking on the hero’s mantle that is set to premiere on February 14, 2025. The next would be the July 25, 2025 release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is set to feature Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm.

However, MCU precedent would seem to show that Evans may not reprise either of his roles in those 2025 movies. Captain America did not appear in the Brave New World predecessor The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. There is also the matter that John Krasinski played Fantastic Four character Reed Richards during a cameo appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness but the role will be filled by Pedro Pascal in the upcoming movie. While Krasinski and Evans could both similarly cameo in the upcoming Fantastic Four, that possibility remains to be seen.

The remaining heroes in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie are the Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby) and The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).

However, post-Deadpool & WolverineEvans’ schedule may prevent him from taking on such a major role. He has several upcoming projects in various stages of development including the Christmas action comedy Red One, in which he will star opposite Dwayne Johnson and J.K. Simmons. He is also set to play a major role in the star-studded Sacrifice, which is currently in pre-production with Anya Taylor-Joy, Salma Hayek Pinault, and Brendan Fraser also set to appear.

Will Chris Evans Return For Avengers 5 & 6?

The MCU Has Set A Precedent For The Captain America Star’s Return

Though the immediate future will likely not include the return of Chris Evans, there is a possibility that he could make an appearance in an MCU movie that is further down the line. The most likely candidates would be the blockbuster crossovers Avengers: Doomsday, due May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars, due May 7, 2027. The upcoming Avengers movies have already set a precedent for Evans’ possible return with the recent announcement that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the franchise.

Downey Jr., whose character Iron Man was central to the first three MCU phases, is set to take on a new role as the villain Doctor Doom in Doomsday and Secret Wars. His salary for both movies is reportedly “significantly more” than $80 million, which may preclude the studio from bringing on another member from their previous A-list talent pool in addition to the already massive Avengers cast. However, the return of more original stars could propel the new Avengers movies to record-breaking heights, making Evans’ price tag worth it in the face of recent theatrical flops like The Marvels.
