Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell move will see them thousands of miles apart

Later today Prince Harry will be making two huge solo appearances in New York while Meghan Markle is expected to attend a glittering celeb-filled gala thousands of miles away on the other side of the United States.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s solo appearances look set to continue – with the pair expected to attend separate events today, thousands of miles apart.

Later today, Harry will be in New York City where he will appear at the New York Times DealBook Conference. He will join journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin to speak at the annual conference, which Meghan once appeared at in 2021, and will also attend an exhibition opening that is supporting his Sentebale charity.

His appearances come on the same day that Meghan is expected to attend the 2024 Paley Honors Fall Gala in Beverly Hills, where the couple’s close pal Tyler Perry is being bestowed with The Paley Honors Award. Both Harry and Meghan are part of the hosting committee for the award, with many expecting both to attend the gala. But it seems only Meghan will attend now Harry’s appearance in New York has been confirmed.

The couple’s last in-person public appearance together was on August 18, more than 100 days ago, on the last day of their four-day trip to Colombia, where they toured the country amid huge security measures. Since then, they have only been seen together once in a video message shared on November 8, which they sent to a United Nations conference in Colombia on ending violence against children.

Referring to their work keeping children safe online, Harry cryptically explained in the video: “We are at a crossroads”, adding: “The urgency to reassess and redefine our approach to protecting children has become increasingly evident. While the necessity has always been apparent, it’s now time to translate that awareness into meaningful action.”

Last month, Harry embarked on a series of solo outings in Vancouver to promote his Invictus Games for injured service personnel and veterans, which is taking place in the city in February 2025. The outings came amid several months of solo appearances for both Harry and Meghan – despite Meghan once memorably likening the Sussexes to “salt and pepper” as they “move together”.

Earlier this autumn, Harry spent two weeks travelling, visiting New York, London and Southern Africa on a solo trip while Meghan made a glitzy red carpet appearance. It raised eyebrows at the time, and Harry flying solo in Canada also set tongues wagging, especially as Meghan joined him in visiting Vancouver earlier this year in February.

However, the real reason for Meghan making the trip seemed to be a strategic one, with a source explaining that the couple’s current long-term plan is to have individual projects. They previously explained: “Harry and Meghan have consistently pursued solo ventures in connection with their individual interests, but remain deeply committed to their joint efforts through Archewell. Together they have exciting projects in the pipeline, all driving forward their shared mission for positive global impact.”

Sources close to the couple have explained away the separate appearances saying one of them always stays behind for their children. One pal told People: “What we are seeing is a functional and healthy relationship with two working partners, not the contrary.”

However, yesterday, the couple did appear to put on a united front by releasing a brand new behind-the-scenes video of their charitable endeavours.

The clip, which has been shared on their Archewell Foundation website and is set to the Coldplay song Sky Full Of Stars, shows their Archewell’s foundation’s major moments of 2024, including footage of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex together during their charitable work over the past 12 months as well as on solo visits. In a clip from an event, Meghan says: “When you show up in a community, you find that group that makes you feel like home but oftentimes you also find yourself again.”

The video has been released as part of the couple’s 2024 Impact Report, which has seen their organisation’s tax return published. It showed that it made an income of $5.7million in the last year, with $5million donated by a single mystery benefactor.

The Sussexes themselves are not paid a salary from the charity and the tax return says they only work one hour per week. PEOPLE reports that this is “standard practice for directors of US tax-exempt organisations”.

Elsewhere in the new report, it is revealed that one of the charities benefitting from a grant from Archewell is one launched by the daughter of US President Joe Biden, Ashley Biden. The report reveals that Archewell is a founding partner of Women’s Wellness (Spa)ce, a trauma-informed wellness center for women founded by the president’s daughter. Records show the organisation received $250,000 from Archewell.
