Portrayed by Lincoln A. Castellanos, Tobias has always been a character who has intrigued viewers.

“Enemy of the State” | Law & Order
As fans of The Walking Dead universe, it is always interesting to see which characters become persons of interest within the fandom and why. One such person is Tobias, portrayed by Lincoln A. Castellanos in season 1 of Fear the Walking Dead.
Tobias was a student at Paul R. Williams High School, where Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) worked as a school counselor. When he is introduced to the storyline, he is seen setting off the school’s metal detector. Madison springs to action, quickly going through his pockets, finding change, which she planted, as the item that triggered the alarm. She ushers him to her office, where she promptly asks for the knife she found in his pocket.
She is concerned for the boy, which it is implied that he has had issues in the past. She tells him if that knife had been found on him, he would have been expelled, ruining any chance of him attending college. He mentions something about safety in numbers, then tells her, “No one’s going to college. No one’s doing anything they think they are.” He goes on to explain that his comment is due to the news of a virus or something spreading in at least five states and people killing…but she cuts him off before he can finish his thought.
Fans have long discussed what Tobias knew and how he knew it. One fact that is certain, he survived the LA bombings. This was confirmed on an episode of Talking Dead soon after the season 1 finale of FTWD by show-runner Dave Erickson. Later, during a season 4 episode of Talking Dead, showrunner Andrew Chambliss stated the same. If you search Tobias Fear the Walking Dead on Reddit, you will find a wide range of opinions about his fate.
Many say he couldn’t have lasted long while others think that he may have started a cult or something similar to Negan’s set up. Some have compared him to Eugene from the main series, smart but unprepared to defend himself.
One thing is certain, he paid attention and understood, more than most what was happening at the onset of the outbreak. Fans were disappointed to never see him again as he appeared to be storyline that could have proved quite interesting.
