This Walking Dead Fan’s Epic Rewrite Changes Rick and Carl’s Fate – You Won’t Believe How It Ends!

Spoilers for The Walking Dead series and the comics.

Whether fans tuned into The Walking Dead for its gruesome zombies or its incredible storytelling abilities, the AMC show captivated its audience worldwide. While many praise the series’ compelling way it tells the human element of survival in a post-apocalyptic world, the long-running drama wouldn’t have been nearly as popular without its diverse and talented cast, which added many layers to its understanding of the complex character relationships that were intricately sewn into its backbone.

The Walking Dead not only told the harrowing tale of what it would be like to live in a world filled with the undead, but it also showcased that even in an existence of such uncertainty and struggle, people needed to rely on each other through hard times. Although there were countless cruel and horrific villains in The Walking Dead, fans also got to see the beauty of relationships, whether they were romantic or not, like Carol and Daryl, Maggie and Glenn, Tara and Denise, or Rick and Michonne. It’s fair to say that many fan-favorite characters’ lives were cut tragically short, where the list is almost an endless obituary, but one father and son dynamic didn’t sit too well with most viewers, so one fan of the series sought out a way to change it into the ending they wanted to see.

The Walking Fan Alters Rick and Carl’s Ending

Negan, Carl and Rick from The Walking Dead

Over on The Walking Dead‘s Reddit page, one heartbroken fan who disliked how Rick and Carl’s fate ended up in the series, decided to change it into something a lot more wholesome. With the help of AI, user SpiderrDude recreated an image that showcased an older Rick and Carl as they enjoyed the rest of their days together. As seen in the reimaging, Carl has grown a beard, but he still wears the sheriff’s hat he was given by Rick while recovering from his gunshot wound at the farm, and Rick can be seen with graying hair and a few more wrinkles.

For those who have read The Walking Dead comics by creator Robert Kirkman, Rick’s fate was cut short as he was gunned down and killed by Sebastian Milton, the son of Commonwealth governor Pamela Milton, whereas in the comics, Carl is still alive and takes on more of a leadership role as Rick ages, even outliving his father. As many Walking Dead fans will remember, Carl ended up getting bitten by a walker in season eight after trying to help the stranger, Siddiq, to safety. Not wanting to turn, Carl then shoots himself in the church after an emotional goodbye with Rick, Michonne, and Judith.

Season two of The Walking Dead: Dead City airs this year. However, a release date hasn’t been disclosed as yet.
