The Walking Dead’s Biggest Hypocrisy: Why Does Everyone Hate Negan But Ignore Rick’s Brutal Actions?

Let’s be honest—Negan is one of the most hated villains in The Walking Dead. Fans still haven’t forgiven him for what he did to Glenn and Abraham, and his cocky, sadistic nature made him public enemy number one. But here’s the thing: why does everyone ignore what Rick and his group did?
Nobody wants to talk about how Rick’s people brutally slaughtered dozens of Saviors in their sleep at the Outpost. Nobody mentions how they wiped out an entire post and unknowingly stole Baby Gracie from her father.
In a world where survival means making impossible choices, why does Negan get all the hate while Rick gets a free pass?
1. The Cold-Blooded Massacre at the Outpost
Everyone remembers the iconic Season 7 moment when Negan bashed Glenn and Abraham’s skulls in. It was brutal, horrifying, and unforgivable. But let’s rewind to Season 6, Episode 12, when Rick and his people attacked Negan’s Outpost.
🔪 What did they do? They infiltrated the base at night, creeping into rooms while people were sleeping, and stabbed them in the head—one by one.
😳 How did they justify it? They told themselves, “We have to kill them before they kill us.”
But think about it—these Saviors weren’t even fighting back. They were asleep, defenseless. Rick and his crew wiped them out in cold blood. Who’s the real villain here?
2. The Man Behind the Baby—The Tragedy of Gracie’s Father
Remember Baby Gracie? The adorable little girl Rick found in a crib during another attack on a Savior outpost? Fans assumed she was an abandoned orphan—but she wasn’t.
💔 The truth? Rick had just killed her father.
Imagine this: A Savior was just defending his home. He had no idea Rick was coming, no way to fight back. He was killed, and his child was unknowingly taken by the people who ended his life.
If Negan had done this, the fandom would have lost its mind. But because it was Rick, everyone looked the other way.
3. The Hard Truth—Nobody in The Walking Dead Has Clean Hands
It’s easy to label Negan as the villain and Rick as the hero, but the truth is, they both did terrible things.
⚖️ Negan’s Crimes:
Murdered Glenn and Abraham in front of their friends.
Extorted communities under his rule.
Burned people’s faces with an iron.
⚔️ Rick’s Crimes:
Led an ambush on the Saviors, killing them in their sleep.
Murdered a father and took his child.
Butchered people in Terminus (granted, they were cannibals, but still).
In an apocalypse, morality is complicated. Everyone is trying to survive, and sometimes, that means doing horrible things.
So, before you call Negan the worst villain ever, ask yourself:
🔹 What would YOU have done in his position?
🔹 Would YOU have been able to keep your hands clean in a world like The Walking Dead?
The truth is, in a world where only the ruthless survive, everyone is a villain in someone else’s story.
