When Telltale Games shuttered its doors, Skybound Games stepped in and acquired The Walking Dead IP, completing the final episodes of The Walking Dead: The Final Season. However, it’s clear Skybound was open to exploring the property further, as even the original devs had said The Final Season was meant to be the end of Clementine’s story but not the game series. It seems Skybound may be following up with that as a new leak claims that a fifth season dubbed The Walking Dead: A Fatal Frontier is in development.
It’s worth mentioning that leaks and rumors are only as credible as their source, and there’s not much reason to believe this The Walking Dead: A Fatal Frontier “leaker” over any other. However, to his or her credit, they’re up front about receiving information from Skybound Games on this and Telltale Games on other projects, even providing potential proof on the latter. Nonetheless, the information provided is not too detailed to be suspicious but more than what most fake leaks offer, so take it with the proper grain of salt.
It’s official title is still up for debate, with A Fatal Frontier being the subtitle and with it being designed as the 5th season of the IP. It’s not going to include Season 5 in the title, whatever is officially decided. Skybound Games is clearly moving away from the Telltale structure, as it’s not episodic but is about the same length as a standard Telltale game. There’s also less focus on choices, coming with more elements of survival horror and basic dialogue options. Inspiration comes from Resident Evil and The Evil Within 2 in its structure.

As the subtitle suggests, it follows the events of Season 3 but effectively killing off everyone except for Javier. Richmond has fallen, killing everyone else from Season 3, and so Javier decides to go searching for Clementine. Skybound Games is also apparently establishing a canon timeline of events, as Kenny is retconned into the story regardless of past decisions. Javier and Kenny will team up to try to find Clementine, while being hunted by an old faction from Richmond responsible for its fall.
The leaker ends by stating The Walking Dead: A Fatal Frontier will be official revealed at the PC Game Show, which is currently slated for June 6, and is an Epic Games Store exclusive. It’ll release on “modern consoles” as well, while nothing is mentioned about PS5 or Xbox Series X releases. Essentially, players won’t have to wait long to see how accurate this leak is.
The Walking Dead: A Fatal Frontier is rumored to be in development.
