HBO’s “The Last of Us” Season 2 will release on April 13, the company announced Wednesday.
After Season 1 covered the events of PlayStation’s first hit video game, Season 2 will follow the sequel “The Last of Us: Part II.” Like the sequel, Season 2 takes place after a five-year time jump and follows an even more grizzled Joel and Ellie as they face off against more fungal, zombie clickers.
New cast members this season include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Catherine O’Hara will also guest star in an undisclosed role. Jeffrey Wright will reprise his “The Last of Us: Part II” role as Issac, the ruthless leader of the Washington Liberation, a Seattle-based faction.
“The Last of Us” is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who co-created the video game series. Both have also directed episodes of the show and will do so again in Season 2.
Mazin recently told Entertainment Weekly that the seven episodes in Season 2 episodes will each be a “meal” and “high-calorie.”
“Each episode is like a meal. You can have a light dinner or you can go to a 12-course French restaurant,” Mazin said. “We have seven episodes. They are high-calorie, dense episodes. If you consider action and drama and scope to be the things that create an epic nature, each one of these episodes packs quite a wallop. You will not be bored.”
