The game-changing tweet that changed Taylor Swift’s life and prompted her to do Eras Tour

Taylor Swift’s music career could have looked much different if she didn’t follow advice from Kelly Clarkson

If it wasn’t for one particular tweet, Taylor Swift’s music career could have looked completely different. A post by American Idol star Kelly Clarkson several years ago seemingly changed the ‘Fortnight’ singer’s life.

Back in 2019, celebrity manager Scooter Braun and record executive Scott Borchetta gained ownership of all of Taylor’s masters. This meant he was able to obtain all the rights to her songs after buying her record label.

As a result, Taylor technically did not own any of her songs anymore. In a lengthy tweet, Taylor at first told fans: “Don’t know what else to do.”

Masses of celebrities spoke out in support of Taylor, including Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Camila Cabello and Halsey. But one celebrity in particular arguably changed everything.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, at the time, Kelly Clarkson put forward a suggestion to the singer on July 13, which must have caught her eye. The post read: “Just a thought, U should go in & re-record all the songs that U don’t own the masters on exactly how U did them.

“But put brand new art & some kind of incentive so fans will no longer buy the old versions. I’d buy all of the new versions just to prove a point.”

Taylor then went on to do exactly that. She released ‘Taylor’s version’ of her previous albums – including Red, 1989, Speak Now, Fearless.

Each re-recorded album comes with their very own ‘From The Vault’ surprise added tracks. Taylor also collaborated with several artists for those albums – from Fall Out Boy to Phoebe Bridgers.

Not only did Kelly’s idea lead to all these new, re-recorded albums, we can also assume that putting out all her songs again is most likely what has prompted her to want to do the Eras Tour. The tour celebrates every single one of albums and is over half way through.

It has already become the highest grossing tour of all time. It also has made Taylor a billionaire.

Kelly recently revealed that every time Taylor releases a new re-recording, she sends her flowers to say thank you. The two album left for Taylor to re-record are her debut album and Reputation.
