The Boys seems poised to feature the much-anticipated clash between Homelander and Billy Butcher at some point given the build. However, Homelander actor Antony Starr preaches patience regarding the expected showdown as Season 4 nears its premiere.
Speaking with ComicBookMovie.com, Starr was asked why the Homelander-Butcher clash hasn’t happened yet and whether Season 4 will further sow the proverbial seeds for the battle. While Starr hinted at a potential showdown between the characters, he conceded Season 4 is a much-needed “cool-off period” before the much-hyped faceoff. “I think Butcher openly tried to kill him in Season 3, so I think if he could have eradicated that, and moved on to the bigger fish, which is, you know, national and global domination, then he would have done that and would do that. So, I think Season 4 is interesting, because it’s a little bit of a cool-off period, in some ways, because we need somewhere to go, and I think anytime you’ve got those two characters coming together, it’s gonna be very impactful,” he said
A recent preview of The Boys Season 4 played up the tension between Homelander and Butcher (Karl Urban), with Homelander finding out about Butcher’s long-held secret as he’s facing six months or less to live due to a tumor caused by excess Compound V consumption. While some fans hope the clip is a prelude to a possible showdown in Season 4, Starr’s comments suggest it shouldn’t be expected anytime soon. However, Starr assured fans Homelander and Butcher would “get it on” before The Boys‘ run ends. “Season 4 is structured a little different, but those two, you know, they’re gonna get it on. It’s not not gonna happen, you know what I mean?” he said.
Homelander and Butcher’s Feud Will Come to a Head
It seems to be a matter of when, not if, when Homelander and Butcher will try to take each other apart, with showrunner Eric Kripke recently echoing similar sentiments. Kripke recently claimed he has an ending to The Boys in mind while insisting fans will see the situation involving the Seven leader and the titular group’s top man eventually come “to a head.”
The Boys Season 4 marks the satirical series’ penultimate season after Kripke’s recent confirmation about its future. Season 4 sees Starr and Urban return alongside Chace Crawford (The Deep), Jack Quaid (Hughie Campbell), Laz Alonso (Marvin T. “Mother’s” Milk), Claudia Doumit (Victoria Neuman) and Erin Moriarty (Annie January/Starlight). The season will also see the debut of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s mysterious character, an apparent ally of Butcher, and the return of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy.
Homelander is set to feature more prominently in Season 4 as he will stand trial for the murder of a pro-Starlight supporter in Season 3. Additionally, Season 4 sees Homelander further his political ambitions, supporting the presidential campaign of the disingenuous Neuman.
The Boys Season 4 premieres with a triple-episode on Jun. 13, via Prime Video.
