Tech Genius or Mad Inventor? Has Mark Zuckerberg Built the World’s Weirdest Car?

Porsche and minivan are not two words usually used together – until now.

When you have no budget you can afford to make any type of car you want… but should you?

One of the world’s richest men, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, has created what is believed to be the world’s first road-ready Porsche minivan (or people mover if you’re Australian). His wife, Priscilla Chan, wanted a minivan for their growing family, but when you’re billionaires apparently just picking a Kia Carnival or Honda Odyssey isn’t an option.

Zuckerberg wrote on his Instagram: “New side quest. Priscilla wanted a minivan, so I’ve been designing something I’m pretty sure should exist: a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT Minivan.”

The couple enlisted West Coast Customs to create the stretched Cayenne, complete with sliding doors, for the Zukerberg family. And, because he’s a billionaire, Zuckerberg decided to order himself a 911 GT3 Touring in the matching colour for a “his and hers” look.

However, Zuckerberg isn’t actually the first person to think of this idea – Porsche already did it themselves. Back in 2021 the German brand revealed the Vision ‘Renndienst Study‘, a six-seat people mover that allowed the brand to experiment with interior design and technology.

Fortunately for Porsche purists (but in bad news for families) it was just a design exercise and the futuristic van never made it past the concept stage.

Porsche chief designer, Michael Mauer, explained the thinking behind the project at the time, saying: “We thought about how we could still give a distinctly Porsche flair to a passenger compartment that is so far removed from the classic sports-car interior. And how autonomous driving could be designed.”
