Taylor Swift has made it clear that she’s good friends with Beyonce Knowles. Refusing to be pitted against each other, the “Cruel Summer” hitmaker shut down tour comparisons between the two.
The 33-year-old pop star opened up about her and Queen Bey’s friendship in her TIME’s Person of the Year cover story. “She’s the most precious gem of a person – warm and open and funny,” she said of the Destiny’s Child star. “And she’s such a great disrupter of music-industry norms. She taught every artist how to flip the table and challenge archaic business practices.”
Taylor went on to note that it was upsetting to see comparing her “Eras” tour and Beyonce’s “Renaissance” tour. “There were so many stadium tours this summer, but the only ones that were compared were me and Beyonce,” she explained. “Clearly it’s very lucrative for the media and stan culture to pit two women against each other, even when those two artists in question refuse to participate in that discussion.”
Taylor and Beyonce did show their mutual respect for one another by attending each other’s concert film premieres. The “Anti-Hero” songstress even posted a photo of her with the “Break My Soul” singer at the “Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce” screening in London. Alongside the Instagram post, she wrote, “Got invited to London by The Queen…”
Taylor was joined by one of her BFFs, Blake Lively. The “Gossip Girl” alum poked fun at Taylor and Beyonce’s comparisons by quipping, “When I grew up, women were always pit against one another… @beyonce and @taylorswift neither of you have to be threatened by my pop stardom. There’s space for us all.”
