When Good Morning America teased a massive announcement from Taylor Swift exclusive to the news program earlier this week, Swifties crossed their fingers for the release of reputation (Taylor’s Version), a live album of the concert, or even more dates to come for her massive Eras Tour, but by the time the multi-hyphenate appeared on their television screens, all decked out in one of her glittering Lover bodysuits, fans were disappointed to hear what she had hidden up her sleeves.
The “Karma” songstress excitedly told fans that every day until the Eras Tour hits Disney+ on Thursday, March 14, she’d be unveiling one bonus acoustic song featured in the concert film that fans didn’t see in theaters, but Swifties already suspected that those songs would be included upon the film’s formal release, seeing as the first three of six concerts in Los Angeles were filmed back in August 2023.
With fans livestreaming each concert on TikTok and countless others watching from home, it was nearly impossible for a Swiftie not to know what the surprise songs were each night, and since “Our Song,” from night two, and “You’re on Your Own, Kid,” from night three, were the acoustic tracks featured in theaters, Swifties knew that there were cuts of “I Can See You,” “Maroon,” “You Are in Love,” and “Death by a Thousand Cuts” somewhere out there.
Sure enough, on Tuesday, March 12, GMA shared the “breaking” news that “Maroon” would be featured in the streaming edition of the show, and fans expressed their disappointment that the big, teasy news was something already commonly known amongst them.
“Shocking wow i had no idea,” one wrote sarcastically, while another pointed out that the song was featured in the trailer, meaning anyone who had seen it would know.
“Stop i had a jumpscare i thought it was gonna be featured in some new movie,” another said. “We already knew this.”
But, as one level-headed user pointed out, the “general public” is a lot less likely to have such insider knowledge about the production of the film, meaning that the teasers, while nothing new to her diehard fans, may drum up some more excitement for more casual viewers.
Well, bonus tracks or no, you’ll know where to find us on Thursday night!
