Some Good And Bad News About ‘Outer Banks’ Season 5

Outer Banks
Netflix
Outer Banks season 4 part 2 premieres in two days on November 7, finishing up the second half of the season that Netflix chopped up for the first time in the show’s history. Now we have an update about season 5 of the show, and it’s good news and bad news, depending on how you look at it.
The good news is that yes, Outer Banks has been renewed for season 5, so no struggling for viewership to make that happen. The bad news is that if you wanted Outer Banks to continue on indefinitely, it’s not going to. It’s been confirmed that it will end with season 5, which is what the showrunners want with the arc they planned out. Here are the creators Shannon Burke, Josh Pate and Jonas Pate in a letter they wrote to fans:
“At the time, seven years ago, it seemed impossible that we would really get to tell the whole five-season story, but here we are, at the end of our fourth season, still chopping away,” the letter continues. “… Now, with a little sadness, but also excitement, we’re putting season four behind us, and are turning to season five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago. Season five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet.”
It appears there are only so many treasures to hunt, and the series will not overstay its welcome, even though it has remained a solid mid-tier performer for Netflix all throughout its run. The question turns to what happens to the cast next, and they have already been branching out a bit.

Outer Banks
Netflix
Madison Bailey is currently starring in Time Cut, the not-good horror movie topping Netflix’s charts. Chase Stokes previously had a supporting role in Uglies, another extremely low-rated Netflix original. Madelyn Cline has had better luck with a role in the excellent Knives Out: Glass Onion. Pope Hayward was in the pretty good Do Revenge. I have not see Rudy Pankow in much at all, and he was a frequent fan-cast for Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four before another Netflix star, Stranger Things’ Joseph Quinn, got the part. Perhaps most interestingly, the villainous Drew Starkey (Rafe) has a hugely high-profile role in Queer opposite Daniel Craig coming up, probably the most prestigious of the bunch.
As for the creators, we do not know what they have planned for their future, but I would be surprised if that team wasn’t given the greenlight on any new show they wanted to make after Outer Banks season 5 concludes.
