“Some Crazy S—t”: The Boys Creator Teases Intriguing Writing Update for Season 5 Ahead of Season 4 Release

The Boys series creator and showrunner Eric Kripke has hinted at more insanity to come in the hit show’s recently announced season 5. Even though The Boys season 4 is still yet to arrive on Prime Video in June, Amazon recently confirmed the season 5 renewal at their inaugural Upfront event earlier this month. While no official release date has yet been announced for season 5, given the gaps between previous seasons, it could potentially arrive sometime in 2025 or 2026.

Speaking with Screen Rant ahead of The Boys’ looming season 4 premiere, Kripke was asked about plans for the next season and if the show’s cast members knew what was in store for their characters. Krikpe, however, was quick to point out that not even he knew what season 5 would look like, given the writers’ room is only a month into the season’s development. Describing the season’s current progress as “very raw,” he did suggest that some “crazy sh-t’s been talked about.” Check out his comments below:

Eric Kripke: Even I don’t. I mean, we’re about a month into the writers room right now, so we have some pretty cool notions. It’s a very raw lava-esque deal right now. It hasn’t hardened into anything, but I’m excited. I think there’s some crazy sh-t’s been talked about, that’s for sure.

Will The Boys Season 5 Be Its Final Chapter?

Pointing to the longevity of his previous hit show, Supernatural, The Boys showrunner suggested that “ no one in history is worse at predicting the amount of seasons of a show. ”

When Kripke first boarded Prime Video’s streaming adaptation of The Boys comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, he was adamant that he originally planned for a five-season run. Between the showrunner’s prior statements and trailers that show The Boys season 4 appears to be working toward a major end-game scenario for Butcher and his fellow vigilantes, most viewers seem to think the show will wrap up after its recently announced season 5.

While he may have begun with a five-season plan, Kripke would famously backtrack on his previous assertions. Pointing to the longevity of his previous hit show, Supernatural,The Boys showrunner suggested that “no one in history is worse at predicting the amount of seasons of a show.” As such, Kripke has since refused to speculate on when his current show may conclude, preferring instead to take things one season at a time.

Even if The Boys is currently working toward a showdown between Butcher and Homelander, the show’s immense popularity and loyal fanbase could still encourage Amazon to find a way to continue into a potential season 6 and beyond. Moreover, with spinoffs like Gen V and The Boys: Mexico only just beginning to expand the show’s fictional universe, it would seem the property still has plenty of life left yet. Countless viewers would certainly not be averse to seeing The Boys continue for many more years to come.
