Prime Video’s Record-Breaker ‘Maxton Hall – The World Between Us’ Kicks Off Filming for Season 2

'Maxton Hall' season 2

The school bell has rung to begin filming on season 2 of Prime Video hit Maxton Hall — The World Between Us.

A second season of the show, which is set in a UK private school but filmed in Germany by UFA Fiction, was ordered soon after the series’ debut became Amazon’s biggest ever non-U.S. original launch. After launching on May 9, it topped Prime Video charts in 120 territories.

The success made overnight stars of leads Damian Hardung and Harriet Herbig-Matten and has spiked interest in Hanover, the German city where it is filmed.

Mild spoiler to follow: The show follows Ruby Bell (Herbig-Matten), a girl from a humble background who wins a scholarship to an elite college, and her relationship with the uber-privileged heir James Beaufort (Hardung). Season two begins after the pair share a night together in Oxford. Everything seems to be going perfectly for Ruby, but but a twist of fate in James’ family changes everything and James himself brings her back from cloud nine to a harsh reality. You can see a first image above.

Also confirmed as returning for season 2 are Sonja Weißer, Ben Felipe, Fedja van Huêt, Runa Greiner, Justus Riesner and Andrea Guo.

Fremantle’s UFA Fiction is the production house. Producers are Markus Brunnemann and Ceylan Yildirim, who also acts as showrunner and head writer. Valentin Debler is also a producer and Martin Schreier (Traumfabrik) returns as director. The writers room consists of Juliana Lima Dehne and Marlene Melchior. Martin Schlecht is behind the camera and Isabel von Forster is responsible for the production design. Gabriela Reumer leads on costumes and Nina Haun casting. The series is funded by the German Motion Picture Fund (GMPF).

The show, which we featured as a Global Breakout last month, is based on Mona Kasten’s Save You. It is expected to run to three seasons in total, though a third run hasn’t yet been greenlit. Last week, Amazon MGM Head of Scripted TV, Germany Petra Hengge said she was tempted to extend season 2 from six episodes to eight or ten. No ep total was revealed today/
