One Direction Reunion Dreams Shattered by Liam Payne’s Tragic Passing – Is a Tribute Show Still on the Horizon?

One Direction was considering a reunion show before Liam Payne’s death, but now a tribute might be a possibility once the boys grieve.

The members of One Direction had their sights set on a possible reunion show.

However, Liam Payne’s death brought the conversation to a stand still as they all navigate how to process the grief of losing their friend. After Liam’s death, the band released a joint statement noting their devastation over the loss and writing, “the memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.”

“In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say,” they wrote in the post on Instagram. Now, an insider claimed the band’s potential reunion is being put on the back burner as the musicians process Liam’s death.

A source told Us Weekly: “The guys would love to do a tribute to Liam. They’re all so devastated right now [that] they can’t even think about that as a legitimate project, but it has been discussed.”

They went on to explain that the loss of Liam has altered the nature of their friendships which, before, were relatively weak in the years following the band’s hiatus. Now, though, they are committed to checking in on each other, staying in much more persistent contact.

The insider said: “Prior, they kept in touch sporadically but didn’t have close friendships at all. They’re all still mourning but are checking in on each other and feel closer than they have in years. It brought them back together.”

One Direction rose to immense fame after their formation on X-Factor UK on July 23, 2010. Their global takeover was complimented by yearly tours and album releases, including two stadium tours. The band found themselves at the center of pop culture with the pressures that came along with the status.

In March 2015, Zayn announced he would be leaving the band, seemingly to pursue a more normal lifestyle. However, upon his departure, he continued to work with music and clashed with Louis online. Fans were left to speculate what really happened behind-the-scenes. Regardless, the entire band announced an indefinite hiatus which formally took effect in Jan. 2016

Thereafter, the group was seldom seen together. The closest thing to a One Direction reunion occurred after Louis’ mother died and he performed on the X-Factor UK. The boys, excluding Zayn, showed up to support him. The band had not reunited in full until Liam’s recent funeral where they came together in mourning.
