Taylor Swift has worried fans after being seen coughing during her latest Eras Tour performance in Singapore but the singer previously explained why she won’t quit

She’s currently deep into her Eras Tour performances in Singapore, but it’s looking like the long-haul concerts are taking a toll on Taylor Swift.

The chart-topping songstress was seen coughing and trying to clear her throat during her latest shows in Asia. Some Swifties assumed this might have a knock-on effect on any upcoming tour dates, but she certainly won’t go down without a fight.

Taylor has previously spoken out about taking to the stage while sick, and it doesn’t look like fans are going to have to rearrange their plans anytime soon. “I know I’m going on that stage whether I’m sick, injured, heartbroken, uncomfortable, or stressed.”

In a previous interview with Time, she added: “That’s part of my identity as a human being now. If someone buys a ticket to my show, I’m going to play it unless we have some sort of force majeure.” So it looks like Taylor is going to continue her Eras Tour.

She sparked concern during her sold-out six-show run in Singapore. Taylor struggled to make it through as she sang her hit song Delicate. The incident was caught on camera by one attendee, who posted it on TikTok, writing: “Hope she’s okay. she’s been coughing.” Taylor also sounded raspy as she sang to the crowd.

Fans were quick to share their concern, with one person writing: “Oooh no she needs some rest.” Another hopeful fan said: “Combination of weather change, humidity, (probably) physical tiredness. She’ll be better after a few weeks off.”

A third fan wrote: “Looks like she’s only got 2 shows then the whole of April off so hoping she can rest,” while someone else added: “Oh no..finally i was wondering how she can do all these eras tour without getting sick coz damn queen was performing with all that rain n heat.”

Taylor’s latest performance comes after she faced a wave of criticism for reportedly being paid $3million (£2.3million) per show in Singapore to stop her from performing anywhere else in the region. Politicians in the Philippines and Thailand were left furious after Singapore struck a deal to limit the singer’s Eras Tour performances in Southeast Asia.

A deal was made by Singaporean authorities which has prevented Taylor from performing in other territories in Southeast Asia, according to reports. Officials hope this will force fans to flock to the wealthy city-state. Srettha Thavisin, the Prime Minister of Thailand, told the iBusiness Forum 2024 that Taylor was offered $3million (£2.3million) per show by the Singaporean government in exchange for Eras Tour exclusivity.

With Taylor performing six shows there, that works out at $18million (£13.8million). Srettha said he had spoken to the organiser of Taylor’s concert who informed him of the deal with the Singaporean government. He told the Thai Enquirer that it would actually be cheaper for Taylor to perform in Thailand.

He added: “I believe she would be able to attract more sponsors and tourists to Thailand.” Srettha said if he had known about the deal with Singapore, he would have tried to bring the shows to Thailand instead as concerts “can generate added value for the economy”.
