Negan Cared More About Carl Than Rick Did in The Walking Dead – And Here’s the Proof! 🧟♂️🔥
Throughout The Walking Dead, Rick Grimes is often portrayed as the ultimate father figure—willing to do whatever it takes to protect his son, Carl. But what if Rick wasn’t the best father after all? What if the man who truly cared for Carl wasn’t Rick… but Negan?

That’s right. Despite being one of the most ruthless villains in The Walking Dead, Negan actually showed more concern for Carl’s well-being than Rick ever did. And the receipts are all there. Let’s break it down.
Rick Constantly Put Carl in Danger
From the moment the apocalypse began, Rick made choices that put Carl at risk again and again:
🔥 Letting Carl Wander Off Unsupervised – Remember when Carl got shot because he was just randomly wandering through the woods near Hershel’s farm? Where was Rick? Distracted, as usual.
🔥 Dragging Carl Into Dangerous Situations – Rick always brought Carl into deadly fights, from Woodbury to Alexandria, as if he was some kind of soldier instead of a kid.
🔥 Leaving Carl to Fend for Himself – In Season 4, after the Governor attacked the prison, Rick was left unconscious while Carl had to survive on his own. Instead of preparing Carl for survival, Rick’s leadership failures left his son completely vulnerable.
And let’s not forget: Rick was the one who left Alexandria unprotected, allowing the Saviors to take over in the first place! His reckless decisions ultimately put Carl on the path to death.
Negan Had a Soft Spot for Carl
Negan, on the other hand, had a strange but undeniable respect for Carl. Unlike Rick, he actually saw Carl’s potential and treated him as more than just a helpless child.
👊 He Saw Carl as an Equal – When Carl infiltrated the Sanctuary in Season 7, Negan could have killed him on the spot. Instead, he admired Carl’s bravery, talked to him like an adult, and even showed him around his headquarters.
👕 He Gave Carl Confidence – Unlike Rick, who was always too busy fighting, Negan took the time to actually talk to Carl. He encouraged Carl to embrace his toughness, even telling him to own his scar instead of hiding it.
💀 He Didn’t Want Carl Dead – Despite his reputation as a brutal killer, Negan never wanted Carl to die. In fact, when Carl was bitten, Negan was genuinely heartbroken. He even blamed Rick for Carl’s death, telling him:
“That kid was the future. And you destroyed that future.”
Who Was the Better Father Figure?
Of course, Negan had his flaws—he was a warlord, a killer, and the leader of a brutal dictatorship. But in his own twisted way, he showed more emotional intelligence and care toward Carl than Rick ever did.
While Rick saw Carl as someone to protect, Negan saw Carl as someone to respect. And in the end, maybe that’s what Carl needed all along.
Do you think Negan would have been a better father to Carl than Rick? Let’s debate in the comments! ⬇️🔥
