Marvel’s 10-Year Superpower Dilemma—Did Agatha All Along Just Crack the Code?

Agatha Harkness smiles in front of the Avengers in the MCU's Age of Ultron battle

An off-screen Agatha All Along character’s eventual return might be key to improving a specific MCU superpower that has been overlooked for ten years. Agatha All Along directly continues the events of WandaVision through the perspective of Scarlet Witch’s son Billy Maximoff a.k.a. Wiccan and her archnemesis Agatha Harkness. In the absence of WandaVision season 2, Agatha All Along scratches the audience’s itch for MCU magic on the small screen, and it also lays the foundation for a few important MCU events later down the line.

Agatha All Along‘s two-episode finale wrapped up various plotlines and set up a few future storylines. Billy Maximoff realized his full magical power as Wiccan, Death stood as the Witches’ Road’s final challenge, Jennifer Kale survived the Witches’ Road, and surprisingly, Agatha Harkness died in Agatha All Along episode 9, but she also returned as a ghost soon afterward. Apart from gaining a new ally and coming to terms with his past, Billy Maximoff also achieved a feat that not even he believed himself capable of pulling off.

Agatha All Along Teased Another Speedster’s Introduction A Decade After Quicksilver’s Death

Tommy Maximoff’s Reincarnation Could Lead Him To Become Quicksilver’s Speedster Succcessor

In Agatha All Along episode 9’s ending, Billy Maximoff finally locates his twin brother’s soul, and he guides it into the dying body of a teenager with the help of Agatha Harkness, similarly to how Billy himself reincarnated in the body of Billy Kaplan. This scene is a clear set-up for Tommy Maximoff’s return, as he reincarnates in the body of Tommy Shepherd in the source material. Just like Billy Maximoff becomes Wiccan after his reincarnation, Tommy Maximoff becomes the superhero Speed when he comes back to life.

Whenever Tommy Maximoff returns in the MCU, his super speed abilities will make him the first Earth-based MCU speedster superhero since Quicksilver’s introduction and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Despite his unique and powerful abilities, Aaron Taylor-Johnson died right after making his debut. Evan Peters then played a new version of Quicksiler in WandaVision, but he was promptly revealed to be an impostor called “Ralph Bohner”, who got temporary super speed abilities from Wanda Maximoff and Agatha Harkness. Other than Quicksilver, Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari only had a small role in Eternals, and Jay Klaitz’ Whizzer died soon after his debut in Jessica Jones.

Now Is The Perfect Time For Speed’s MCU Introduction

Tommy Maximoff May Soon Be The Only Active Live-Action Speedster Hero

Speed could establish himself as a hero just in time for the MCU’s Young Avengers project. Besides, Fox’s X-Men franchise is officially over, meaning that there currently aren’t alternative versions of Quicksilver running around. After The CW’s The Flash series concluded and the DCEU’s The Flash‘s bombed at the box office, the DCU’s Flash may take a little longer to be introduced. And considering Eternals 2 likely won’t happen, Makkari will probably remain absent a little longer in the MCU. Hence, Speed could soon become the only live-action speedster superhero taking the spotlight following Agatha All Along‘s ending tease.
