Marvel Drops a Hint: Is a Second Season for Their Disney+ Hit Already in the Works?

Agatha All Along Season 2 Kathryn Hahn

Agatha All Along might have given fans a lot to discuss with its first season finale, but the hit miniseries might have been transfigured into something more on the Disney+ Marvel Cinematic Universe slate, as a recent change to the show’s listing on the streamer seems to suggest something more.

Agatha All Along had a lot going against it when it finally hit Disney+ in late 2024, as the show was multiple years removed from WandaVision, the show and performance that earned leading lady Katheryn Hahn her own spin-off, to begin with. Worse yet, the MCU had fallen from its heady WandaVision-era peak by quite a lot, with fan interest and general quality all on the decline by the end of 2023. Despite these issues, the show managed to be a hit, telling an interesting story with characters and concepts that appealed to a large enough niche of fans to more than justify it. While Agatha All Along’s stacked finale certainly left a lot of new and interesting questions and plot threads that could have been developed, its status as a miniseries meant that fans wouldn’t get a chance to experience more of that particular flavor of the MCU again.

Agatha All Along May Move Forward With a Season 2

Despite even Kathryn Hahn’s comments casting doubt on an Agatha All Along season 2, a recent change in the show’s Disney+ presentation might suggest otherwise. Some eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice when the Disney+ page for Agatha All Along was updated from being tagged as a miniseries to now being marked as Season 1, with that updated distinction implying one thing: the show might be getting a second season. There have been nonstop discussions about a second season of the MCU’s only successful Disney+ show of 2024 (being number one of two after effortlessly surpassing Echo) and even discourse around the show’s categorization during award season. However, this is the first move from Marvel/Disney that seems to show some clear intent to go forward with a second season.

When screenshots of the change started to make the rounds on social media, some users were quick to point to The Acolyte, a series that was very publicly not renewed for a second season, also being given the same designation on Disney+. However, as was made very clear when Manny Jacinto confirmed the full scope of Leslie Headland’s original plans for The Acolyte, the show was always intended as a three-season project. With that in mind, it makes sense that the first season of The Acolyte was and is tagged as a first season and says nothing about what it means for Agatha All Along, which was run as a miniseries and had the proper designation until the recent change.

Unlike Headland’s plans for The Acolyte, it’s unlikely that Jac Schaeffer had long-term plans for multiple seasons of her latest Marvel masterpiece. In addition to handily resolving the show’s main plot and leaving Agatha in a less-than-ideal state at the end, Agatha All Along didn’t even have a post-credits scene to set up a proper follow-up within the same format. More likely than not, the initial plan was to use the characters and plotlines from the finale elsewhere, with the show’s success potentially leading to a change of plans. There are tons of avenues that the showrunner and creatives involved could take with a second season, albeit with significant difficulties matching the tone and pacing of the original miniseries. Fans might also be split on the decision, as while a second season is certainly appealing, the leading thought on the matter was that Hahn’s Agatha and her new ward could potentially be headed for a theatrical project next.

Agatha All Along was certainly a success, and alongside the chance of a second season, there have also been rumors that the show will be getting its own spinoff centered on Death. Whichever one of these two potential projects takes off at Disney+ (fans will have their fingers crossed for both), Katheryn Hahn will certainly play a part and reprise the role that’s made her a prominent MCU headliner twice already. In the meantime, viewers can watch out for threads of magical happenings in other MCU projects like the upcoming Vision series to try and figure out where it’s all heading.

Agatha All Along is available to stream on Disney+.
