Over the weekend, paparazzi photos of Lady Gaga attending her sister’s wedding in Maine surfaced online, causing some tabloids to cry “pregnant.” Never one to let the rumors go unchecked, Gaga swiftly took matters into her own hands.

On Monday, June 4, the 38-year-old singer shared a selfie video on TikTok of herself walking on a treadmill. “Not pregnant—just down bad cryin at the gym,” she wrote over the video, in which she lip syncs to “I am the aesthetic” audio. Gaga refused to let all that publicity go to waste, adding on screen, “register to vote at www.headcount.org.”

She added another call to action in the caption, but that seems to have gone over the heads of the thousands of followers who were more keyed into Gaga’s word choice. “GAGA AND TAYLOR??? OMG” reads one comment, referring to the pop star’s use of Taylor Swift lyrics. (“Down bad crying at the gym,” for the uninitiated, is a line from Swift’s “Down Bad,” a track off The Tortured Poets Department.)

The rest of the comments echoed the “omg” sentiment, as though they never fathomed that Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift could exist in the same universe. “Girls give us a duet,” wrote one follower. And another, “GAGA BEING A SWIFTIE WELL WE NEED A COLLAB IMMEDIATELY.” Lady Gaga One element of the rumor that Gaga did not address was the speculation that she is engaged to her partner of four years, Michael Polansky. Also at the wedding, Gaga was photographed wearing a large, oval-shaped rock on her left ring finger. Perhaps she’s just doing the polite thing and waiting for her sister’s moment to pass before announcing her own impending nuptials? Or maybe Gaga is just a girl who likes to wear a ring on her left hand when it pleases her. She is an enigma.

Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky went Instagram official in 2020, though they’ve largely flown under the radar ever since. According to his LinkedIn profile, Polansky is a Harvard grad with a degree in computer science and applied mathematics who is a founder and investor in several companies.

For now, Gaga does have something in development: Her seventh studio album, which she’s expected to deliver some time in 2024. Always Mother, even if not a mother.
