The introduction of Lady Death in Agatha All Along is one of the most chilling moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans have been waiting for her to show up since she was first hinted at long ago – and expected her to come in earlier, considering her ties to Thanos in the comics. However, the version of her we got is perhaps one of the most interesting re-interpretations of a character that the MCU has ever braved. She’s Agatha’s former love interest, and their relationship (especially as it pertained to Agatha’s son Nicholas Scratch) was one of the driving forces of the series.
However, now that the series has ended, fans are waiting for the next chance to see the characters who made it out of Agatha All Along alive. Billy will likely be used in a Young Avengers-adjacent project, especially now that his brother Tommy may be a major player in the team as well. Agatha’s future remains fairly up in the air, but wherever Billy goes, she will likely follow, since she’s helping him find his brother. This leaves Rio Vidal as one of the greatest questions the universe has to answer – so here are some places she might pop up in the future.

Fantastic Four: First Steps is one of the most anticipated releases in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel’s First Family has yet to get the adaptation they deserve, and fans hope that this may finally be their chance. Not much is known about the production yet, which is interesting considering that its release looms closer and closer with every passing day. Usually, by this point, Marvel has released a trailer or something about the film – and their refusal to do so suggests that this is a film that’s best experienced with as little prior knowledge as possible. However, the film appears to be stylistically different from most of the other entries to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Four live in an entirely different universe that seems to be themed around the 1960s. They set out to protect this world from Galactus, a world-devouring cosmic entity that threatens to destroy their life as they know it. He’s one of the most popular Marvel villains ever introduced in the comics, and fans have been waiting patiently for him to finally make it to the screen in a way that does him justice. Perhaps this is their chance.
If Lady Death (or Rio Vidal, as she’s primarily known) makes an appearance in Fantastic Four: First Steps, it would likely be alongside Agatha Harkness. Agatha interestingly got her start in the comics as an ally to the titular team. She worked as Franklin Richards’ governess and proved herself to be a capable fighter when she defended the child from the Frightful Four using her magical abilities. She went on to join them in their battle against Annihilus. Agatha All Along worked to place Agatha in that sort of mentor role (albeit to Billy rather than Franklin Richards, who hadn’t been introduced yet). Though she’s a ghost in the main MCU canon right now, it seems that Fantastic Four: First Steps is taking place on an alternative earth. This means that Agatha could be alive in that world – and if Agatha appears, it’s not a stretch to hope that Rio could as well. The two of them were clearly very important to one another in the main MCU canon, and that love could stretch beyond the bounds of a singular universe (thus allowing Rio to return alongside Agatha in this film).
Marvel Zombies Could Play Into Her Dislike of Ghosts

Who’s Starring In It?
David Harbour, Simu Liu, Elizabeth Olsen, Florence Pugh, Hailee Steinfeld, Iman Vellani
The upcoming four-episode Marvel Zombies miniseries is, so far, one of the greatest mysteries of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s slated to branch off of the wildly popular What If…? Season 1 episode that tackled the same topic. It’ll follow a group of survivors (interestingly, not the ones who were already presented in the first season – rather, this series is focusing more on Phase 4 heroes who hadn’t been introduced yet when the initial episode was released) who have to face off against both foes they thought they vanquished and heroes they previously worked alongside to protect their world from succumbing to the undead. Though it takes place in an entirely different universe, it could shed more light on characters who previously seemed a bit underdeveloped because of how little they have appeared in the wider context of the MCU.
With this emphasis on newer characters in mind, Rio could turn up for a little while. After all, zombies technically fall under her domain as Death. Much like ghosts, they’re people who have evaded her somehow – and she probably wouldn’t be a big fan of them either. She’d want to doom them to the grave permanently to restore the sacred balance of the universe. This could lead her to join forces with the group of heroes working to bring this apocalypse to an end once and for all. Additionally, she would be a foreboding presence. She only joined the coven on their journey down the mythical Witches’ Road because someone had already died and, knowing Agatha, she knew there were more bodies for her to collect on the horizon. Her tagging along with this group of survivors could make them worry that one of them is going to lose their life and could add fantastic narrative tension.
Avengers: Doomsday’s Massive Cast Could Include Rio

Joe and Anthony Russo
Who’s Starring In It?
Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland, Chris Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Anthony Mackie
Avengers: Doomsday will be the first main-series Avengers film to come out since Avengers: Endgame dominated the pop culture landscape back in 2019. It replaces Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which was slated to be the next major team-up film in the franchise, but had to be removed from the slate due to both legal troubles with Jonathan Majors and a generally lackluster reaction to Kang as a character. Instead, it’s going to feature the new team of Avengers working together against perhaps an even bigger threat: Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey, Jr. in his triumphant return to the franchise where he made his name. It’s unclear if he’s playing the original incarnation of Doom or a variant of him based on the comic run where Victor Von Doom took over Tony Stark’s body. Alternatively, given the newfound emphasis on the multiverse and its infinite possibilities, he could just be a variant of Stark who went down the wrong path. Details are being kept tightly under wraps.
The cast of Avengers: Doomsday is destined to be the largest one since Endgame. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown exponentially since the last time we saw all these heroes in one place, and many of the new heroes have never even met each other – let alone had to work together. Throwing Lady Death into the mix could complicate these dynamics even more. As we learned in Agatha All Along, she’s not necessarily the biggest team player. Rio prefers to work on her own, and other people really only have value to her if they’re providing her with bodies. Though she tried to bond with the coven at times, they never truly clicked, and she didn’t work to contribute to any of the trials other than Agatha’s (and even then, that was only due to her history with the witch-killer). If she doesn’t appear as a member of the team, she could just be there to collect someone who inevitably falls during the promised confrontations with Victor Von Doom.
Vision Quest Is the Natural Successor of Agatha All Along

Who’s Starring In It?
Paul Bettany, James Spader, Todd Stashwick
Vision Quest, though it was announced shortly after the success of WandaVision, remains one of the most secretive projects in the franchise. It’s slated to be both a sequel and a spin-off of the earlier show (much in the same way that Agatha All Along was). It will zero in on the adventures of White Vision in the aftermath of WandaVision as he tries to determine who he is outside of his creators. Now that he has Wanda’s version of Vision’s memories, there is even more life for him to go out and explore. Vision Quest will also feature him crossing paths with Ultron, which could be interesting considering that Vision was initially created as an answer to Ultron in the first place.
Given that this is the next project to have any confirmed ties to WandaVision, it makes sense that characters introduced in the “magical” side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe might appear. It could be the next chance for Agatha and Billy to grace audiences’ screens as they strike out in search of Tommy – who is rumored to play a big part in the series since his brother got a starring role in Agatha All Along. If Tommy’s there, Rio could turn up in a similar context to her appearance in Agatha All Along. He’s not supposed to be alive either. The finale made it clear that much like Billy, his lingering soul was placed in the body of someone who should have died. He’s just as much of an abomination to the sacred balance. Bringing Rio in – especially in the presence of these characters who may not recognize her – would add a whole new dimension to the series.
Avengers: Secret Wars Is Full of Endless Possibilities

Who’s Starring In It?
Robert Downey Jr., Joseph Quinn, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach
Avengers: Secret Wars will serve as a direct follow-up to Avengers: Doomsday. It will bring the Multiverse Saga to a conclusion, and as of now, is the last project announced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (though that probably won’t be for long, given how far in advance they plan things). It is likely going to be based on the comic runs of the same name. If the revealed cast is any basis, it’ll probably draw the most inspiration from the 2015 installment, which zeroes in on Doctor Doom (who, importantly, stole the power of the Beyonders and presided over the titular event) and the Fantastic Four.
Though they’re the only ones confirmed to be in the film so far, the Fantastic Four likely won’t be the only ones to appear in the film. Avengers films, especially the more recent ones, have notoriously large casts. Like with Doomsday, this is a chance for beloved recently introduced characters to shine outside of their initial appearances. Secret Wars by nature will place the heroes in Battleworld, a combination of aspects of each of their home universes. They’ll have to confront both each other and any enemies that may be placed there alongside them. This, of course, could result in some characters meeting untimely ends – which would require the presence of Death herself to take their souls. It could also be particularly interesting to see her as one of the competitors on Battleworld. As far as we know, Death is a fairly unstoppable entity. The only way that anyone has been able to thwart her is by making some sort of bargain (the way that Agatha did for Billy in the finale of Agatha All Along), which suggests that she could be one of the ones to make it out of Battleworld. Regardless, it’ll be truly interesting to see where Lady Death appears again, and she’s sure to become one of the most interesting characters in the MCU as a whole.
