California is dealing with devastating wildfires in the region, and Los Angeles is one of the many cities impacted by the flames. The deadly fire has caused evacuations in certain regions, with plenty of residents and businesses left affected.

The sporting world is not exempt from those influenced by the wildfire.

With the flames getting worse in Los Angeles, the status of games taking place this weekend is one to monitor. The NFL is set to begin the 2025 playoffs with the wild-card round this weekend, and the Rams are slated to host the Vikings on Monday night to end the first round. In addition, the NHL and NBA seasons are underway, meaning the Lakers, Clippers and Kings are all in action.

The Sporting News will provide the latest updates for the sports and teams affected by the storm, as well as the latest tracker for the Los Angeles wildfires.

This section will be updated as cancellations or rescheduling happens.

NFL

Los Angeles Rams vs. Minnesota Vikings

The Rams are facing the Vikings in the wild-card round of the NFL playoffs. The club’s SoFi Stadium is located in Inglewood, a suburb of Los Angeles, which is one of the areas impacted by the wildfires.

On Thursday night, the NFL announced the decision to relocate the Monday night game to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The kickoff time remains set for 8 p.m. ET.

The league consulted with public officials, both teams and the NFLPA before moving the game, and the choice was made “in the interest of public safety.”

Already on Wednesday evening, the NFL had announced the contingency plan in case the game could not be played in California. They made that plan the reality Thursday.

Los Angeles Chargers at Houston Texans

The Chargers aren’t playing in Los Angeles this weekend, as Jim Harbaugh’s crew is the No. 5 seed and will travel to Houston to take on the No. 4 Texans. However, before the Chargers travel to Texas, the team’s practices were impacted by the wildfires.

Los Angeles was forced to adjusted their practice schedule to limit the time spent outdoors due to the poor air quality from the fires. The offense and defense were separated for their respective practice sessions.

NBA

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Charlotte Hornets

The Lakers are coming home to California at the wrong time. After a two-game trip to Texas, the basketball club is seeing the wildfires impacting the area. Los Angeles is set to host five consecutive games in a row starting on Jan. 9 — but that won’t be the case.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick revealed that his family was forced to evacuate the area due to the rampant flames.

“I just want to acknowledge and send thoughts and prayers to everyone in the Palisades right now,” Redick said before the Lakers’ loss to the Mavericks. “That’s where I live.

“Our family, my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister, they’ve evacuated. I know a lot of people are freaking out right now, including my family. From the sound of things, with the winds coming [Tuesday night], I know a lot of people are scared. So I just want to acknowledge that. Thoughts and prayers for sure, and hope everybody stays safe.”

Redick’s rental home in the Pacific Palisades was destroyed in the fires. So was Warriors head coach Steve Kerr’s childhood home.

The Lakers game on Saturday, January 11 against the Spurs has been postponed.

Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers have one game left on their quick two-game road trip. After losing to the Timberwolves on Monday, the team travels to Denver to face the Nuggets on Wednesday.

While the club is still on the road, Kawhi Leonard won’t be with them. The Clippers star is stepping away from the team to be with his family, who were forced to evacuate due to the wildfires.

Los Angeles was set to return home for a matchup with the Hornets on Saturday, January 11. That game has been postponed.

NHL

Los Angeles Kings vs. Calgary Flames

The Kings and Flames were the first game to be postponed due to the fires. With Crypto.com Arena located right in the middle of Los Angeles, the fires caused the NHL to cancel the Wednesday night game.

The contest against Calgary was the final one for Los Angeles’ five-game home stand. The Kings are scheduled to travel north to the border for a five-game road trip against Pacific Division opponents.

U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT)

January camp and Futures camp moved

U.S. Soccer made the decision to move both the USWNT January camp and Futures camp. Both camps will now be held from January 17-23 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida at the Inter Miami CF’s Florida Blue Training Center.
