Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness is surprisingly returning sooner than expected
If you’re hoping to see more of Agatha Harkness, you won’t have to wait long as she’s back on screens sooner than you could have imagined.

Kathryn Hahn has very quickly become one of the most popular additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This should come as no surprise – it’s Kathryn Hahn! – but it is wonderful to see, as her character, Agatha Harkness, has taken the world by storm as one of the strongest arrivals of the franchise’s Multiverse Saga.
A legendary but lesser-known witch in the pages of Marvel Comics, Agatha made her live-action debut in Emmy-winning Disney Plus series WandaVision when she masqueraded as Wanda Maximoff’s friendly-but-nosy neighbor Agnes. She then reprised the role in long-awaited sequel series Agatha All Along, which has become a breakout in its own right, earning Hahn a Golden Globe nomination for portraying the character.
Naturally, fans are wondering when – or if – we will see Agatha show herself in the MCU again. As we await news on whether there will be a second season, there is an unexpected delight in the fact that the character will be popping up on our screens sooner than expected in a different Marvel project.
Kathryn Hahn returns to the MCU in What If…? season 3
In what can only be described as an unexpected delight, Kathryn Hahn will reprise her role as Agatha Harkness when she voices the character in the upcoming third season of animated series What If…?. The announcement was made when the first trailer was released, briefly showcasing Agatha in her Marvel Animation debut, and it was subsequently confirmed that Hahn herself was reprising the role.
She’s set to appear in the second episode of the season, which streams on December 23 (the day after the third season premieres). Titled “What If… Agatha Went To Hollywood”, the episode will envision a world where the ancient witch makes her way to the City of Angels and crosses paths with Kingo, an Eternal who found success in Hollywood in the main MCU continuity.

As Marvel fans know, What If…? imagines a world (or many) in which the events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe play out a little bit differently, allowing us to see what would happen in scenarios such as Captain Carter becoming the first Avenger, Doctor Strange losing everything, Thor as an only child, the Avengers as zombies, T’Challa becoming Star-Lord, and if new character Kahhori made her presence felt on the MCU.
The third and final season will bring the show to a close. That decision has been questioned by fans, as a show called What If…? that could literally reimagine any possibility in any possible way could have lasted for many, many more seasons. But the reason that it is concluding is reportedly down to the fact that it is expected to play into the Multiverse Saga’s big Avengers movies (Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars). We’re not sure how yet, but given all three titles’ importance to the multiverse itself, you can see why that would be a factor.
As for whether Agatha All Along has another season in it, the series told a complete story that set up the next chapter of Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness’ storyline. The only question is whether or not that storyline will take place on a second season of Agatha or another series. There have been rumors of a Wiccan series, while the upcoming Vision Quest series will tell the next chapter of the WandaVision story. There have also been reports of Marvel considering renewing Agatha All Along after it turned out to be such a success story for the studio on a lower budget.

Kathryn Hahn is eager to return to the role and hopeful that a second season is doable, but she doesn’t know if it will happen yet. The Emmy-nominated actress recently appeared on the Dinner’s On Me With Jesse Tyler Ferguson podcast and opened up about whether she thinks a second season could happen, adding how the Vision series is expected to be the next chapter of the story.
“No. I mean, I think I don’t know. All I’ve heard is that there is a trilogy. Next one would be focused on Vision. That always has been the long game.”
We know the story continues in the Vision series, and we know that Agatha and Billy will return to screens in another project at some point. We’ll just have to wait and see if Marvel decides to renew one of its most beloved series for another outing.
In the meantime, catch an Agatha Harkness variant in the third and final season of What If…?, premiering on Disney Plus on December 22.
