Prime Video’s The Rings of Power is just one of many projects bringing The Lord of the Rings franchise back to screens, as this year will see the release of The War of the Rohirrim, but more importantly, there are two other live-action films in the works. One of them is The Hunt for Gollum, which was recently confirmed to be taking place after Bilbo’s birthday party and before the Mines Of Moria, thus opening the door for the likes of Elijah Wood’s Frodo to return. As much as it would be a nostalgic treat to see him reprise one of his best roles, I’ve personally enjoyed watching him take his career in various directions beyond the franchise with bizarre genre roles, and would prefer to see him continue this focus over going back to Middle-earth. Additionally, given the franchise is already running the risk of overstuffing its timeline with The Hunt for Gollum, any kind of midquels featuring Frodo may feel convoluted or unnecessary.
