Is Ciri’s New Look in The Witcher 4 a Mistake?

The Witcher 4 was finally revealed last night, more than two years since the sequel was first teased. As most of us expected, Ciri is taking the lead this time, and we’ll be playing as her in the latest instalment.
However, because certain corners of social media are stuck in a constant loop of outrage, the knee-jerk reaction to this has been to label the game as woke, seemingly only because we’re playing as a woman this time. Some are also arguing that Ciri is unattractive now, which would seem to be a deal breaker for them if true.
Ciri Is The Protagonist In The Witcher 4
Usual suspects are having a normal one

the entire Game Awards chat spamming “woke†because the Witcher 4 has you playing as Ciri, a woman, is everything that is wrong with gaming culture. grow up, incels. — TVMBLE (@TVMBLEZ) December 13, 2024
People are calling Ciri ugly like ???? Do men even like women anymore? pic.twitter.com/WU6nouBzT6 — Mustakro🀠(OPEN commissions) (@mustakro) December 13, 2024
If you were otherwise having a good day, you might want to avoid the recent comments made on the YouTube upload of the trailer. These include useful commentary such as:
“Bet they turned Woke meter to 100%. main character is a woman who is a lesbian non binary helicopter [sic].”
“So this is another gender swap game, yuckk.”
“Woke uglification of women hit Ciri hard.”
The Witcher 4 doesn’t currently have a release date, but it has entered full production. We’ll have to wait and see when we can get our hands on this new chapter in The Witcher series.
