While both Elrond and Isildur are committed to fighting the evil forces in Middle-earth, their storylines have remained separate. That could change in season 3 with their storylines colliding and forcing them to work together, much like Isildur and Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) being closely connected in season 2 after having separate storylines in season 1.
