Henry Cavill’s Role in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Took a Toll—He Got “Sick to His Stomach” After a Grueling Day of Smoking!

Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy sat down with The New York Times to talk about a number of things about the film including Henry Cavill coming in to play a Wolverine variant, and how that experience made the actor sick.
Before we get to Cavill, though, the director told the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he almost put a real-life wolverine animal in the movie but due to time constraints he wasn’t able to pull it off.
There’s a sequence in the movie that features Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool traversing the multiverse trying to find the perfect Wolverine.
Levy said: “Number seven was an actual wolverine. We really wanted an actual wolverine, the animal, and he would maul Deadpool. But we came up with that idea too late to do a convincing digital wolverine, so that one’s in my back pocket should I need one for any sequels.”
Levy then went on to talk about former Superman actor Henry Cavill, saying that the actor got sick because of having to smoke Wolverine’s cigar… all day on set.
The filmmaker said: “He kept that cigar lit and in his mouth for the entirety of the shoot day. I remember hearing the next day that Henry was sick to his stomach because he had been inhaling cigar smoke for eight hours straight, but never once did he waver.”
Levy also talked about Cavill’s Wolverine cameo in another interview with Variety, saying: “If we’re going to talk about him, we must call him by his actual credited name, the Cavillerine, which Ryan coined.
“I knew it was undeniable as soon as Ryan came up with that term. He said ‘yes’ right away because he knew it would be subversive and playful.
“It was also with a lot of affection for him and his body of work, and playing with his legacy as a DC hero now that he’s appearing as a variant of a Marvel hero.”
Seeing Cavill as Wolverine was pretty damn awesome. It was a fun little scene, and while we’ll most likely never see Cavill in the role again, at least we got a chance to see what what Cavill as Wolverine would be like!
