Joan is a six-part British crime drama based on a true story.

Actor Frank Dillane is well known for his roles in Fear the Walking Dead, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and The Essex Serpent. Now he stars with Sophie Turner in the crime drama Joan. Where can you watch it??
Joan was created for ITV by Anna Symon and is based on the memoir of one of the Godmothers of Britain’s criminal underworld, Joan Hannington: I Am What I Am: The True Story of Britain’s Most Notorious Jewel Thief. The series is directed by BAFTA award-winner Richard Laxton, who is well known for directing the 2014 Effie Grey, written by Emma Thompson, starring Dakota Fanning,

The series is set in the 1980s and follows Joan’s journey to becoming a master jewel thief to ensure her daughter’s security. Stuck in a horrible marriage to Gary, a violent criminal, Joan and her six-year-old daughter Kelly take on new identities and start a new life. This leads to a thrilling, high-stakes journey that sees Joan doing whatever it takes to give her daughter a good life.
The series premiered in the UK on ITV1 & ITVX on Sept. 29, 2024. The CW premiered the series in the US on Oct. 2 as part of its 20240-2025 season. All six episodes are available to stream on The CW.
Turner portrays Joan, Mia Millachamp-Long as her daughter Kelly, and Dillane plays a London antique dealer named Boise. The additional cast includes Kirstey J. Curtin as Nancy, Joan’s sister, and Gershwyn Eustache Jr., and Laura Aikman play Albie and Val, a couple living in Spain who were former acquaintances of Boise. The series also stars Tomi May, Alex Blake, and Jack Greenlees.
Joan currently has an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, and many have stated that this is Turner’s best role since Sansa Stark on the HBO mega-hit Game of Thrones.
Dillane’s recent roles include Harvest, a drama set in England in the Middle ages. He also starred along with Louisa Harland in the Disney+ fantasy series Renegade Nell. In 2022, he appeared in The Essex Serpent, a mystery period drama with Claires Danes and Tom Hiddleston. This series also stars fellow TWDU actress Clémence Poésy (Isabelle in Daryl Dixon spinoff).
