Geralt is much younger than most think
Andrzej Sapkowski’s new book, Crossroads of the Crows has been out for a few weeks and while we won’t be spoiling anything major from it for now, we can talk about Geralt’s age, for example.
Crossroads of the Crow officially takes place in the year 1229 and Geralt is 18 years old in it, making Geralt’s birth year 1211. This means that by the end of the book series, in 1268, Geralt is only 57 years old. He is only a few years older than Queen Calanthe and was around 40 when Ciri was born.
In comparison, in the Netflix version of the timeline, Geralt was born in 1160 making him 106 years old by the end of Season 3. He is also older than Yennefer in the show, who was born in 1192 in the Netflix version as opposed to 1174 like in the books. So by the end in the show they’ll be 108 and 76, while in the books they are 57 and 94.
Also in the first few hours of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3, Vesemir says that Geralt is “nearly a century old” with the game taking place in 1272.
So it turns out that the canon, Geralt is not unnaturally old, but rather at the back end of what we’d call “middle-aged”.
The Witcher Season 4 is in post-production for a 2025 release. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book Crossroads of the Crow is available in Poland with The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep anime set for a February 2025 and CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4 is now in full production.
