From Local Concerts to the Global Stage? Sofronio Vasquez Sets His Sights on the West End!

Sofronio Vasquez gears up for concerts, and hopefully, West End

‘The Voice US’ champion Sofronio Vasquez remains excited for a chance to star in musicals, admitting he could not commit yet to a potential West End stint due to a hectic concert schedule

The Voice US Season 26 champion Sofronio Vasquez will journey through 2025 as a busy man, with concerts across the globe and perhaps a role in the West End all lined up for him.

Vasquez, who signed with ABS-CBN’s Star Magic on Tuesday, February 25, will have concerts in North America, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, and the Philippines.

Moreover, he revealed that he was offered the role of Thuy in the West End production of Miss Saigon in London, but he couldn’t quite commit yet.

“I have to figure it out because my schedule is packed,” Vasquez said in Filipino during the signing ceremony at the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City.

“They gave me the role, and technically I’ll be brought in to sing in London for four weeks, but if I’m unable to fulfill it, I’m just thankful for the chance given…I would not be closing doors on musicals,” he added.

Vasquez became the first Asian to win the popular television singing contest in December 2024, honing his skills under coach and Canadian crooner Michael Bublé.

The Mindanao native previously competed in the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” segment of It’s Showtime, and with his new contract being signed in the same studio where he sang, it felt like a full circle moment for him — from being a struggling singer to being recognized by millions of people.

In addition to the concerts, Vasquez will have his life story dramatized and shown on ABS-CBN, which produced the drama anthology series Maalaala Mo Kaya for over three decades, with a possible cameo.

Star Magic will represent Vasquez in the Philippines and in the Asian region, and will also look to tap into the market, hoping to take a similar path Grammy winner Sabrina Carpenter had almost a decade ago.

Carpenter had a collaboration with Filipino rapper Shanti Dope with a version of “Almost Love” in 2018, the opening track of Carpenter’s third studio album Singular: Act I.

“Conversation with Michael Bublé [during The Voice US] was that he wanted to make highlight of the fact that I am an Asian, a Filipino, and given the chance that I would win, I think we would use that aspect of leverage just to pursue music,” explained Vasquez.

“Bublé wasn’t recognized until he went to Asia and the Philippines, so he wanted to prove to me that [I could] sustain the leverage and make it more global.”

Vasquez also said he dreams to duet with Bublé and do collaborations with other international artists with Filipino roots like Nicole Scherzinger, Olivia Rodrigo, H.E.R., Bruno Mars, and apl.de.ap, as well as local icons Lea Salonga, Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, among others.

“[Bublé and I] have already talked about it, but the [Los Angeles] fires made things delayed, but communications have been open,” he added.
