Freya Allan’s Latest Movie Role Shocks Fans with a Major Witcher Callback!

Actor Freya Allan will be playing a major role in the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and that character shares some similarities with her The Witcher role. The news that Allan would be starring in the fourth installment of the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise came in 2022, and the 2023 teaser trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has provided the first look at her character. Though there is still not much known about the details surrounding the human Allan will play, the little that was seen in the trailer indicates that the role is right in her wheelhouse.

Allan’s breakout role as an actor was in Netflix’s The Witcher, playing Princess Cirilla alongside Henry Gavill’s Geralt of Rivia in the epic fantasy story. Though the show has faced much criticism over its last couple of seasons, Allan’s performance has been broadly praised, so it’s no surprise that she has managed to break into a major film franchise. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be the fourth installment in the Planet of the Apes reboot films, taking place several generations after 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes. The name of the actor’s human character is still unknown, though the role within the teased plot feels a little familiar.

Freya Allan’s Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Character Copies The Witcher

The trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes reveals the franchise’s new lead character, Noa (Owen Teague), a greatly evolved ape of unknown origin. It’s unclear how he is connected to the characters of the previous Planet of the Apes movies, but it’s evident from the trailer that he is off on a long journey into the world the first few installments developed. During this time, humans have been reduced to prey, living in crude tribes and struggling to survive the apes who are now the dominant species. On his adventures, Noa comes across Allan’s human character, and for a mysterious reason, he brings her with him.

The clips of Allan’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes character hiding in the grass and riding on Noa’s back feel similar to the actor’s character in The Witcher, who travels along with Geralt as a person of particular interest. In Netflix’s fantasy series, Ciri is a powerful princess on the run from those who would harm her, and Geralt is responsible for protecting her at all costs. There is a similar energy present in the Kingdom of the Planet of the Ape‘s trailer, but this time, Noa is the one mysteriously responsible for keeping this human girl alive.

1 Major Difference Between Freya Allan’s New Role & The Witcher’s Ciri

Ciri using her fire power in The Witcher

Of course, despite the similarities between Allan’s character in The Witcher and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, these are two drastically different franchises. With one a fantasy and the other a science fiction, the role that humans play in each is unique. Therefore, though Ciri is a powerful princess in The Witcher with a unique brand of magic that could be catastrophic to the world, Allan’s Planet of the Apes character is seemingly nothing more than a typical human who, in the period of the franchise fourquel, is entirely dominated by the superior race of apes.

This means that the relationship dynamic between Allan’s new character and Noa will significantly differ from that of The Witcher‘s Ciri and Geralt. It can be assumed that the connection between the human and ape will be a complicated one. Still, there must be something special about the character since there is no other reason that Noa would bring Allan along on his journey in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. With such little information about their relationship in the teaser trailer, only future trailers and the film’s release will tell for sure.
