The Witcher fans have a lot to look forward to in 2025. Although a brand-new video game, The Witcher 4, is currently set for 2026, Netflix is giving players something to hold themselves over with a new animated movie starring Geralt of Rivia.
The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep will premiere on Netflix on Feb. 11, 2025. This new animated movie is set within the same universe as the live-action Witcher series on Netflix. However, American voice actor Doug Cockle is reprising his role as Geralt for the upcoming movie. Cockle played the titular hero in the video game trilogy developed by CD Projekt RED (Cyberpunk 2077) from 2007 to 2015.
The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep Is Coming to Netflix Next Month
Sirens of the Deep is the second animated Witcher movie following the 2021 release of The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, a prequel film following Geralt’s mentor, Vesemir. It’s also the third Netflix Witcher project after the 2022 miniseries The Witcher: Blood Origin. Although these projects take place in the Netflix version of The Witcher, the decision to use Geralt’s voice actor from the video games comes after Henry Cavill stepped down from the titular role after three seasons. While The Witcher officially transitions to Liam Hemsworth in Season 4 — estimated to be released sometime in late 2025 — Cockle reprising his iconic video game role for Netflix will likely delight longtime fans. Cockle will be joined by Joey Batey, who plays the live-action version of Jaskier, and Anya Chalotra, the live-action actor of Yennefer of Vengerberg.
The upcoming animated movie is based on the short story “A Little Sacrifice” in Sword of Destiny by original The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski. It takes place between Episodes 5 and 6 of The Witcher Season 1. “Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter, is hired to investigate a series of attacks in a seaside village and finds himself drawn into a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople,” the official description of Sirens of the Deep reads. “He must count on friends — old and new — to solve the mystery before the hostilities between the two kingdoms escalate into an all-out war.” Netflix released a nearly three-minute trailer for the film during Geeked Week 2024 that highlights the relationship between Geralt and Jaskier.
The Witcher’s CD Projekt Red Has Teased New Projects From Fan-Favorite Franchises
Fans of The Witcher and CD Projekt RED works may also enjoy Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, a 10-episode anime series by Studio Trigger based on the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. The fan-favorite anime studio is also behind Little Witch Academia, Kill la Kill, Promare and Delicious in Dungeon — the latter another Netflix-specific anime that ranked highly in CBR’s best anime of 2024.
CD Projekt Red teased more animated Cyberpunk projects in late August 2024. Lucyna Kushinada, the feisty heroine of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, will be the first special guest fighter of Guilty Gear -Strive- in its Season 4 Pass, with an estimated 2025 release.
