Since its original release in 2013, Naughty Dog’s hit video game The Last Of Us has gone on to make quite an impact on the gaming scene. With an entire HBO series that saw critical acclaim, and a later released remaster The Last Of Us: Part 1 shared in 2022, this gem has stood the test of time. Delivering a story that’s immersive to both players and viewers, it’s no surprise that this game is now truly a classic.
With the release of The Last Of Us: Part 1 on PC, the game has also seen an abundance of new mods to change up the experience. Whether players are looking for a smoother running experience, more drastic gameplay changes, or differences in character appearances, these mods can do it all. With that in mind, it’s worth checking out some of the top choices from the get-go.
1Playable Ellie
Take Control of Ellie instead of Joel
Created by: Ashura1756
For players who want a refreshing new experience upon playing The Last Of Us: Part 1, the Playable Ellie mod is the perfect way to change up the gameplay. While the original game has the player controlling almost entirely the protagonist Joel, with a short segment for Ellie toward the end, this mod allows for her to be more than a companion throughout.
With the Playable Ellie mod installed, gamers can experience the entirety of The Last Of Us: Part 1 as Ellie, for the first time witnessing it through her eyes instead. While there are a few chapters that have some issues, and bugs like Ellie being incapable of crafting throughout the game, there’s still a lot of fun to be had in finding a new way to enjoy this beloved title on a replay.
2Playable Tess
Replace Joel With Tess For A New Change
Created By: CheezeOfAstora
Completely change how The Last Of Us: Part 1 plays with this Playable Tess mod, replacing Joel’s character in the game with Tess. While she is normally featured at the beginning of the game, as Joel and Tess embark on getting Ellie to the fireflies before she sadly passes, this version instead makes her the protagonist throughout the entirety of the game.
While players shouldn’t encounter any issues where Tess cannot progress, a Joel model is available to switch back to for any issues that may be found so that areas players cannot clear are still doable with ease. Players will also be required to do everything in full action mode without stealth, making this a fun new way to get through the game, especially for something like New Game+.
3Grounded Plus – Fully Complete Save and Extras
Embark On A Difficult Challenge or Utilize All Unlocks
Created by: SkyCloud
Giving players access to a fully completed save file, Grounded Plus is the perfect way to jump into The Last Of Us: Part 1 at any difficulty. With all collectibles unlocked, all extras including skins, gameplay modifiers, filters, concept art, and more, this is the ideal place to jump into the game for a new challenge.
Primarily useful for those looking to play the game on previously locked difficulties before New Game+, this file is a great way for players to challenge themselves without all the hassle of doing the work beforehand. With the added benefit of all pill skills unlocked and all weapons fully upgraded, this mod is the best way to embark on a new save at its fullest.
4The Last Of Us HBO Prologue Intro Sequence
Immersive Introduction From The Hit TV Show
Created By: Mophead
For avid lovers of the HBO adaptation of The Last Of Us, the HBO prologue intro sequence mod adds the show’s introduction to the start of the game. Shown after the prologue, players can sit back and enjoy this more realistic introduction that showcases gorgeous music and visuals of the twisted infection before jumping into the game themselves.
Perfect for some added immersion as players run through the credits of characters like Joel as Pedro Pascal, and Ellie as Bella Ramsay, this is an excellent way to begin The Last Of Us: Part 1, especially if the show is one that the players especially loved.
5Ellie Clothing Collection
Dress Ellie In New Clothing and Jacket Choices
Created By: Veir
While the base game of The Last Of Us: Part 1offers an abundance of clothing choices and unlockable selections as fans progress, the Ellie Clothing Collection mod is an excellent way to enhance players’ gameplay further with different shirts and jackets for Ellie. Working throughout all gameplay and cutscenes, there’s no disadvantage to installing this mod and utilizing the fun new outfits Ellie adorns.
With a handful of choices for films, games, TV shows, animals, art, and more, Ellie has never been so easily customized to suit the player. Make this The Last Of Us: Part 1 experience truly one’s own and represent the player’s chosen styles throughout.
