Elon Musk Reportedly Bought Another Mansion After Selling All His Possessions And Publicly Vowing ‘Will Own No Home’

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has consistently captured public attention with his unique lifestyle choices, especially his approach to homeownership. In May 2020, Musk announced on Twitter (currently known as X) his intention to divest himself of all property, stating, “I am selling almost all physical possessions. Will own no house.” He also mentioned that his partner, Grimes, was unhappy with his decision, sharing, “My gf is mad at me.”Musk announced on Twitter (currently known as X) his intention

This nomadic lifestyle isn’t new for Musk. Even years earlier, his former friend and Google co-founder Larry Page humorously referred to him as “kind of homeless” because Musk would occasionally ask to crash at his place, despite being a millionaire.

Despite these public assertions, a contrasting narrative has emerged. According to Business Insider, court records from a custody dispute with Grimes show that in February 2022, Musk purchased a home in Austin, Texas. Musk himself confirmed in the filings that he and Grimes, along with their children, resided there from April to August 2023.

The house, which was not publicly listed when it changed hands in 2022, was initially bought by another couple in 2018 for $4.5 million. It is located in an area known for its enhanced security and the frequent presence of Teslas, suggesting Musk’s possible residence there. These details, though he has not publicly linked himself to this address, continue to fuel speculation about his actual living situation.

To protect his privacy, the property was purchased under an LLC — a common tactic among high-profile individuals. This decision was driven by privacy and safety concerns after the address of a home he was renting was exposed, compromising his family’s privacy.

In 2021, The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk was living with PayPal Mafia member Ken Howery in an 8,000-square-foot $12 million mansion near the Colorado River in Austin. Musk denied living there in an email to Business Insider, stating, “I don’t live there and am not looking to buy a house anywhere.” Interestingly, just eight weeks after this denial, an LLC was formed that later purchased the Austin property.

Musk has also mixed his public comments with more personal reflections on his living situation. In 2021, he spoke about renting a prefabricated home and using a Boxabl prefab as a guesthouse. His mother, Maye Musk, even chimed in on a 2023 X post about Musk sleeping on a friend’s couch, sharing her memories of sleeping on the floor during visits.

This pattern highlights the complex reality behind the billionaire’s minimalist public persona, suggesting a more rooted residential life than previously portrayed.
