December 13 is Going to Be a Sad Day for Netflix Subscribers Everywhere

gta leaving netflix

Two Grand Theft Auto games are leaving Netflix on December 13, disappointing many subscribers.
GTA 3 and Vice City are on the two games on the way out.
GTA San Andreas will remain on Netflix for now.

Friday, December 13 is going to be a sad day for Netflix subscribers, as that’s the day that two Grand Theft Auto games are being removed from the service. While Netflix is primarily known for streaming movies and TV shows, the service has branched out to include live sports and even video games.

Netflix’s video game efforts have largely been relegated to the mobile space, though the studio did dabble in AAA development before ultimately scrapping its plans. In any case, Netflix has given its subscribers access to a wide variety of titles since it started adding games to its platform. Some of these games are based on Netflix-owned franchises, but other times they are well-regarded games that otherwise have no affiliation with the streaming giant.

So was the case with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which has been available on Netflix for about a year. And while GTA Trilogy was widely panned by those on console and PC, the mobile ports were praised for being a significant improvement. The GTA games have proven to be very popular with Netflix subscribers, but unfortunately, two of them are on their way out. As reported by What’s on Netflix, Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City are both getting the boot, with December 13 being the last day that the games will be available to play. After that, anyone interested in playing GTA 3 or Vice City on mobile will have to buy the games from their respective app stores.

List of GTA Games Leaving Netflix

Grand Theft Auto 3 – December 13
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – December 13

While it is definitely sad to see open world classics like GTA 3 and Vice City removed from Netflix, the good news is that it seems like San Andreas is going to stay. No removal date for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been announced at the time of this writing, so it seems that Netflix subscribers will get to keep playing it beyond December 13. San Andreas is the most popular of the trilogy, and so it staying on Netflix could go a long way in keeping Netflix gamers happy.

San Andreas is enjoying a renaissance of sorts, with its player count spiking despite the original version of the game being 19 years old at this point. GTA Trilogy recently received a major update from Rockstar Games that brought the console and mobile versions more in-line with what those playing on Netflix have been enjoying, with improved lighting, bug fixes, and more.
