Dave Bautista’s New Prime Video Action Sequel Is Now Trending, Breaking His 10-Movie Rotten Tomatoes Streak

Dave Bautista Prime Video Sequel Trending Smashing Rotten Tomatoes Streak

Dave Bautista’s latest film My Spy: The Eternal City is trending on Amazon Prime Video despite ending an impressive Rotten Tomatoes streak. The celebrated wrestler-turned-actor is best known for his recent appearances in Denis Villeneuve’s three most recent films, Blade Runner 2049 (2017), Dune: Part One (2021), and Dune: Part Two (2024), as well as starring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Drax, who was first introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).

My Spy: The Eternal City is the direct sequel to 2020’s My Spy, which starred Bautista as a hardened CIA operative alongside a sharp young girl named Sophie played by Chloe Coleman. The cast of My Spy: The Eternal City sees the return of both Bautista and Coleman’s characters and also features performances by Kristen Schaal, Anna Faris, Craig Robinson, Flula Borg, and celebrated Hangover and Community alum Ken Jeong. My Spy: The Eternal City is streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

Unfortunately for Bautista, My Spy: The Eternal City is the lowest-rated movie of his career since the original My Spy was released.

As of the time of writing, My Spy: The Eternal City is currently ranked in the number 2 spot of Amazon Prime Video’s Top 10 List which, unlike Netflix, combines both movies and television series. Technically speaking, because The Boys continues to firmly hold the number 1 spot after the recent release of its fourth season, My Spy: The Eternal City is currently the number 1 movie on the streaming platform, followed by Jason Statham’s The Beekeeper and Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black.

Compared to the 2020 original movie, My Spy: The Eternal City has a much lower Rotten Tomatoes critic score. The reviews for 2020’s My Spy were essentially split down the middle, with 48% of critics giving the film a positive review, while those of the My Spy sequel were far more critical, resulting in a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of just 28%. Unfortunately for Bautista, My Spy: The Eternal City is the lowest-rated movie of his career since the original My Spy was released.

My Spy 2 Ruined Dave Bautista’s Optimistic 10-Movie Rotten Tomatoes Streak

Bautista’s momentary slump with critics shouldn’t last long

Bautista will appear in Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl , the hitman movie The Killer’s Game , and an Army of the Dead series.

Believe it or not, Bautista starred in 10 straight Rotten Tomatoes Certified Fresh movies between the releases of 2020’s My Spy and 2024’s My Spy 2. The highest of which was Hayao Miyazaki’s Academy Award-winning animated film The Boy and the Heron which earned an RT critic score of 97%.

The celebrated Dune: Part Two was not far behind with a critic score of 92%, while Rian Johnson’s 2022 Knives Out sequel Glass Onion was also up there with a critic score of 91%. Following My Spy: The Eternal City, Bautista will appear in Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl, the hitman movie The Killer’s Game, and an Army of the Dead series, all of which should put an end to his momentary critical slump.
