Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2, episode 2!The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon star Norman Reedus has explained Daryl and Isabelle’s (Clémence Poésy) final moment together in season 2, episode 2, interpreting what it means moving forward. In their final scene together during Daryl Dixon season 2, episode 2, the pair talk about rescuing Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) from the Nest and going to America together. At the end of their conversation, they kiss, cementing the relationship that has been building up between them since the start of season 1.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Reedus interpreted Daryl and Isabelle’s kiss in Daryl Dixon season 2 as experimental instead of something definitive. The actor explained how he believes his character is questioning the notion of having to fight all the time, and instead wanted to try something less conflict-heavy and more definitive. He said that push and pull of fighting or settling down is the reason he decided to kiss Isabelle, to see if such an option is one he has. Check out what Reedus had to say below:
I think it was an experiment. It was, ‘What is this?’ It wasn’t a ‘This is it!’ It’s a ‘What is this? And what would that look like and how does that feel?’ I don’t think there was an intention to get to second base. I think it was more of scarily parting these curtains to look at the idea of it.
I’ll tell you my interpretation of it, is that he’s never got to do this before and he doesn’t know what it means. He’s been running and fighting his whole life, and is asking himself: Have I been doing this wrong? Should I have just found someone and settled down in a farm and just had those moments of life before I die? Or is the fighting and fighting the way I’m supposed to go? He’s questioning the whole big picture.
What Daryl & Isabelle’s Kiss Means For The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2
The Pair’s Relationship Is Likely To Deepen In Future Episodes
However, they’ll clearly need to fight for their safety, as the Daryl Dixon season 2, episode 3 trailer reveals Losang (Joel de la Fuente) is going through with Laurent’s ceremony to have him get bit by a Walker. This means the duo will need to put their potential romance on hold as they work together to save him. While it’s unclear how long it will be until more kisses or other moments happen between the pair, it’s possible this could become a slow-developing staple of the series.
Our Take On Daryl & Isabelle’s Kiss In Daryl Dixon
It’s A Natural Progression Of Their Relationship
Given how close Daryl and Isabelle have gotten to one another since the start of the show, their romantic connection is a natural progression of their relationship. While anything could happen that puts a more serious development between them in jeopardy, it’s possible this becomes a mainstay in season 2, and potentially Daryl Dixon season 3 as well. Since the pair are about to face the dangers of the Nest and their ceremony for Laurent, it seems their potential settling down will have to wait for now.
